Experiences with Carol's Daughter?

Sephora online just started selling the line so I ordered the Hair Milk and Healthy Hair Butter but I'm not having great results so far.

I tried the Hair Milk on washed/conditioned hair with a little PM Sculpting Glaze over it and it made my hair super greasy -- so bad, in fact, that I couldn't even wear it down. I'm thinking that maybe I used too much? It actually felt great when I was putting it on but I was shocked by how coated it left my hair.

I also tried a little of the Healthy Hair Butter, which is supposed to be a hairdressing and I guess it was fine, but the smell was overwhelming and lingered so I probably won't be using it again.

Any tips for better results with the Hair Milk? Are there any other CD products that you really like?

TIA

I have the Healthy Hair Butter. I'm not really sure how to use it b/c of how I wear my hair but I have been massaging it into my scalp and hair everynight. The smell doesn't bother me, b/c I love lavender and find it to be very relaxing, but I can see where it could be a bit much for some. I have noticed that it makes my hair soft and gives it a mean shine. I might try mixing it with my products or leave in since it's so full of oils.

No recs for this product but a tip is that you could dilute and give it another go.

Do a better job of covering your stinky aliass.
I hated the Hair Milk- greasy, didn't do much for my curls, and the lemongrass scent was just too much for me. Now, the Hair Butter is something I adore! I actually like the scent, but I see how it could be a problem for some people. I use it as a moisturizer on damp hair or on dry hair.

I didn't really like any of the hair products. I did like the Baby body balm and the Body jam, though. The mimosa honey stuff worked nicely on my daughter's hair, though.

Okay, you've convinced me ... I'll give the Hair Butter another try. I love lavender too, but didn't notice much of it in the scent -- it just seemed loud and cloying to me, but I only tried it once.

Thanks

The Mimosa Hair Honey is a long term love of mine. I wasn't crazy about the shampoos (which are basically just castille soap) or the Tui oil I used. The Tui made my scalp itch something fierce. I'm pretty certain to this day it was the cornoil base. So, I've steered clear of the hair products since then. I've liked most of the body products -- they smell good, do what they say and are packaged nicely.

Of course, I expect the entire line to slowly but surely go downhill now that Sephora has bought the company. I started using the stuff before it became really well-known and thought the quality was high b/c it wasn't made in giant quantities and the ingredients seemed to be high quality. There's no way Sephora can maintain that degree of labor intensity and quality without jacking up the prices considerably. So, it will probably just start to skimp.
I use the Hair Milk on my sugabooga's hair. The lemongrass scent is not so strong on her. Maybe her body's chemistry? I have the Mimosa Hair Honey. It' nice. I only use it when I wear my hair in buns mostly.

I used to use CD waaayyy back maybe 7 or 8 years ago before she changed some of her formulas and went mainstream. There was a time you had to CALL to get her stuff. Now it's popping up everywhere and the prices are out of control. Only thing I ever liked was the hair/shea butter.
I hear you. I remember the call-in days & the early website days when it never worked. There was only one store around here where you could get the products. It was this tiny little afro-centric place over in MD, just across the DC line.

I'm happy to see that the line is expanding ... another sista doing it for herself, ya know?

Sephora is just selling the line ... they didn't buy it.

Here's more info on the company:

Regardless of ownership, I can't help but think the line will lose quality, etc. now that it's going to be so mass-produced and sold. Honestly, I thought the quality of the items had started to get a bit diluted as more and more stores started carrying it. I think it's great for the founder, but it's already started to go ways I'm not to thrilled about. At least now, I know why Jada Pinkett is all over the catalog and website.
