I plop with flour sack towel, usually for 20-30 min. After that I rake in and then scrunch in some gel -- sometimes a curl cream before that, especially in summer -- clip along my part, and air dry for about an hour.

Then I diffuse with my hair flipped upside down, shake my hair (upside down) with my fingertips up by my part because I like lots of volume, even if it gives me a little frizz. Scrunch out any crunch with JC Nourish and Shine.

It took me a looong time to get a fairly regular routine...I tried adding gel before I plopped, total air drying with no diffuser, etc. etc. before I settled on what worked best for my hair.

I don't have any flax seed gel right now, but I see you use the Shescentit leave-in - I love that stuff. When you put in your leave-in and your gel (both before and after plopping), do you do it rightside up and just do your diffusing upside down or do you do all of your application upside down as well?

For leave in and flax seed gel, first I smooth the leave-in onto my hair (usually doing each side and the back) and kind of rake it in, and then I comb it through. I usually don't bother to scrunch or flip my hair upside down. After that, I apply the flax seed gel the same way. Then I lean to the side and scrunch (I think it's called the scrunch and pump method -- I open and close my hands 3 times...it seems to really make my hair curlier). I do that for each side, and then I flip my hair upside down and do a final scrunch that way. I hope that makes sense!

When I take off the towel and add the gel (and curl cream), I rake it through but don't comb. Then I add a little more to my palms, lean to the side and scrunch n pump for each side, flip my hair upside down and go all over my head while I scrunch. So I guess I combine standing up and upside-down applications -- the raking and combing through help me get product evenly through all of my hair...when I was just scrunching it in, I was definitely missing spots!

I'm also new to this...it's really helpful to even SEE my hair in a photo-it's different from looking in the mirror somehow. Mine makes me realize how i need to clump more of those loose flyaways more. I didn't i had too much frizz, but i guess that's what those are?

I just did a b.soda/ACV rinse last night & the amount of 1TB/3 TB soda/conditioner was WAY too much for my length-anyone agree?

Also, anyone want to venture a guess as to how much time it should take to grow my hair long again?
When it's long, it's wavy till the middle, then ringlets at the bottom, but the weight of it makes me lose volume at the roots. That's what i like about the shorter cuts (more root volume). Ideas?

I'd love to see more pics as your hair is growing, cuz i'm trying to as well. I've had so many versions of short hair while trying to grow it, & i'm constantly tempted to cut again when it's just not working!!!

I actually like the shorter cut from the front (below, 4 mos. ago), but i also want it long! i hate growing it out! Below shows winter hair -hat head waves.

-Mostly 3A, though wavy if not enough moisture (like when I lived in CO.).
-High dew point gives large ringlets, though smaller & tighter coils at neck.
-Med. texture, high density, normally porous?
-sulfate free, silicone free baby!
-searching for good stylers (but can't purchase living in China! must wait till summers to buy in US)

To everyone: You see, my hair looks incredibly close to MimsTX's. I started CG awhile ago, somewhat on and off. On a good day, and quite by chance.. my hair looked like hers does in the photo. But then i went to sleep and the next day it was gone. Ever since I blow-dried my hair I haven't been able to get my curl pattern back. But i know that I am a 2c/3a curlie, the curls just need coaxing, and their resisting my attempts at coaxing them. Could all of you beautiful curlies help me?
i have to post this somewhere- i just ran into this pic -mid length, straightened (rarely ever did that), but craaaaazzzzzyyyyY!
u can tell it wants - to -- curl -----uh --- why are you trying to tame me!!!!?!???? don't you love me???

i just love taking pics on this mac of my evolving CG hair! it's like a photo shoot anytime my hair looks good! i just rode home on my motorbike at 50km/hr w/ the wind sweeping my hair back. i was totally surprised to see how it formed (somehow!) huge, thick curl chunks-they're usually not so chunky-it's not even that humid/dewy today (only like 61%!) THANK YOU CG!!!

CG since June 2010.
3a, normal (edging on high) porosity, medium texture.
Still not settled on products.

@ kimmiisan: wow, your hair is so pretty and you are too. I wish my hair looked like yours. I'm adding you to my list of hair envy haha

hey everyone
i used to post here a little bit, but since i've gone to college i've been super busy and haven't been on lately. basically i have a question. i got too lazy with college schedules and stopped putting anything in my hair. i literally just wash it (regular shampoo and conditioner) and let it dry now. i feel like its curlier than ever now. am i still 3A? or is it 3Bish now? I can't tell really.

any input would be cool.

thanks!

I think it's a bit more 3B than 3A, but I'm no expert.

hope it's no offense, but my hair looked a lot like this when I DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF IT EITHER - probably back when I was also in college & having too much fun to care!!!
You are in no way 3b - YET! But it's possible after months of going CG (not sure). It looks pretty dry & the 1/2 curls don't make the full spiral that they could.
I disagree w/ our friend who says your hair is gorgeous; it's only halfway there. I'd love to see it after months of CG!
Rock what you got girl! Stop using sulfate shampoo!
Do you blow dry? What's your climate? Your hair tells me low humidity-no?
I only have a couple weeks of CG experience, granted, but many lives of curly hair (anywhere from 2c-3b, depending on length & climate)
I attached a pic pre-cut & now. Good luck going from 'cool hair' to hair to envy. you seem to have enough personality to grow from honesty-don't be mad at me!

As I said concerning your hair being 3B, I'm no expert.
I stand by your hair being gorgeous--it's thick and I actually like the curl formation. Then again, I haven't seen your hair from before, and now that I look more closely, it does seem a little dry. Whoops!

I personally had little success with the CG method, but whatuask, your hair is very pretty!

I've tried the CG method and it just makes my hair really greasy and not very nice. Back when I posted more, I wasn't CG either...I just used a lot of hair product. I don't blow dry at all anymore. I live in Montreal though and the winter is very harsh here....which I think has dried my hair out a little bit. I'm hoping when summer comes with its humidity that my hair be slightly less dry. But it really doesn't feel dry to the touch at all...it's rather soft actually.
