empressri has a great two-part flat iron tutorial on youtube (under the name richeau). As per her recommendation, I purchased a Sedu iron about a month ago.
Basically I washed my hair with a gentle sulfate shampoo (Neutrogena Triple Moisture Cream Lather) and deep conditioned with Hairveda Sitrinillah. I then sectioned off my hair and applied the Sally version of Redken Anti-Snap and Redken Heat Glide. I combed it through and twisted each section (I don't know how to braid ) until my whole head was done. After air-drying, I applied Beyond the Zone Turn Up the Heat spray and Chi Silk Infusion to each section and got to ironing.
Let me just say that it was my first time ironing my own hair EVER. I had to have my mom help me at one point because my hair is past BSL when straight and I was getting all tangled in myself. Mind you, she has naturally straight hair and had never held a flat iron before in her life. Even with those odds against us, my hair turned out great!
