Need product advice for 3C/4A hair.

Well my son has been on this adventure with his hair for awhile now. He is not the type to come and ask for advice or to spend a lot of time on his hair. But he wants to know what products might work best. He has already tried a number of products at my urging. But he is a college age guy and wants his hair to look good but doesn't want to get into some major routine or to have to use lots of products. Below are a list of things he told me or info about his hair.

-He doesn't want to use a lot of products. Maybe 2 shampoos, one dandruff and maybe one other. A conditioner and a leave in.

-His hair when dry is about 4" to 5" long. When I pull out the curl it is 12" and shrinks back to 6".

-He picks his hair into a fro on the weekend or when playing basketball. LOL...it is trademark. But during the week he just washes it and lets it curl.

-As far as shampooing he has dandruff and plays basketball or goes to the gym almost everyday. So he feels the need to wash his hair or at least scalp. I've suggested he not use his dandruff shampoo too often and figure out another shampoo or method for those days he plays basketball etc. What should a person do in a situation where they are exercising and perspiring? Don't they need to wash their hair or scalp? What would you suggest he use? He has been using Head and Shoulders or Nizeroll for his dandruff and Netrogena Clarifying shampoo on other days.

-He uses Trader Joe's conditioner as his conditioner. We have tried a number of brands but this seems to work well for him. But he is willing to try something else if something better is suggested.

-The leave-in is what is most confusing. He definitely needs to use something because when he wasn't his hair looked really dry and frizzy. He has been willing to try a number of leave-ins and still doesn't feel he has found the right one for his hair. He hates when his hair feels crisp or (as he says) "slimy". To name just a few products he has used, lol...and remember this is over years, mixed chicks, garnier fructice, paul mitchell the conditioner, elasta silk, paul mitchell elixer( so far this has been his favorite, but again it makes his hair crisp & hard). Recently he just tried using Trader Joes Conditioner as his leave-in. I think he thought he found his leave-in solution because loved how soft it made his hair (it wasn't crisp). But he didn't like that the curl was no longer defined. He also decided to stop using this method when his hair got slightly wet in the rain and it felt "slimy" and greasy :::yuk:::. What leave-in could he use that allows his hair to be soft, the curl is still defined,it isn't crisp or "slimy" ?

I want to thank you all for the help and advice you have given over the years.
