Default I Don't Miss.....

Today while I was in the salon with my bestest, I was thinking about all the things that I don't miss about being "non-natural", so I thought that this would be a cool thread to start. What are some of the things that you definately don't miss about being a "non-natural". I'll start...

I don't miss the scabs on my scalp from my relaxers.
I don't miss the dandruff on my scalp from all the chemicals.
I don't miss running from the rain because I was scared it would mess up my "straight hair".

What are some things that you guys definately don't miss....

- checking the weather every morning because anything over 50% humidity meant i had to wear my hair up.

- hiding my curls.

- trying not to have big hair!

I don't miss having had hair for 41 years and perming for 28 and having my then waist length hair (at first) gradually breaking off to neck length, then never getting any longer, year after year.. Now it's bsl.

-I don't miss being forgotten under the dryer, while my stylist worked on 5 others heads between me.

-I don't miss my hair breaking off or having to be cut off because of bad relaxers.

-I don't miss turning down a nice swim in the pool for the sake of keeping my locks straight.

I am enjoying this freedom!!!

I don't miss all of these. Plus, I don't miss

-sitting in the salon ALL day every couple weeks,
-avoiding swimming while on vacation/waiting until the last day to get my hair wet,
-having to wake up early and "bump" my ends before work or a special event,
-getting my hair relaxed bone straight just to put some rods back in it and have curls (that seldom came out how I wanted them to anyway),
-"greasing" my scalp, and finally
-finding little broken hairs everywhere after combing and thinking it was normal.

Completely forgot about that! Such a normal part of the getting-ready routine...

i dont miss:
--the scabs
--breakage in the front an back of my hair
--actually having a "kitchen"
--the burning
--the new growth (and how it was treated like a fungus)
--the amout of money it costs
--having my hair go from bsl (it never went past that) to nl in two years

..and finally.....
GOING TO A STYLIST THAT WORE WEAVE....ALWAYS.
--sorry but to me that signifies that you have no knowledge about how to maintain the integrity and health of hair. but she sure could relax the hell out it.

I dont miss being ignored by myhairdresser when I told her to wash out the relaxer.
I dont miss the burns on my scalp because she left on the relaxer too long.

I've definitely been through this!

I don't miss spending my whole Saturday in a salon!
I don't miss worrying about the rain!

*I don't miss flat, limp, plastered to my scalp hair.
*I don't miss that rotten eggs smell from a "fresh" relaxer.
*I don't miss losing 2 of the 5 hairs I had left on my head from the relaxer.
*I don't miss going through all that trouble and still having "bumpy" hair in the back.
*I don't miss trying to find products that make my dry, ruined hair seem somewhat normal.
*I don't miss going through all that trouble only to have to wear my hair up every day anyway because it was so fine that it would just look fly away and weird anyway.
*I don't miss wishing that my hair could be "normal" - either curly or straight.

I used to do this too! Relax my hair until it was bone straight and then get mad because it wouldn't hold any curls!!!

I thought of another one...

I don't miss being scared to do anything that would require me to sweat because I was scared this would mess up my hair and cause my new growth to get all wavy and bumpy.

Default hahah that is so true!!

I loved ALL this stuff. I still notice my relaxed friends doing all this hilarious stuff.

-I don't miss striving to have beautiful curls while I was burning my own straight.
-I don't miss having to cut my hair. (I almost never do it now, I don't get split ends!)
-I don't miss my ridiculously thin hair. I never did have a decent ponytail while relaxed...
-I don't miss HAVING to wear a scarf. Much love to ya, satin pillow case.
-I don't miss acting like I was paralyzed in gym class because I couldn't sweat.
-I don't miss the fart-smell that would erupt in the kitchen when the relaxer was being washed out.
-I don't miss worrying about grease rubbing off on any and everything.
-I don't miss smelling like a jar of B&B.
-I don't miss never getting to play with my hair because I wanted to "wash it too much!"
-I don't miss assuming my hair was only dark auburn because of the relaxer. (It's actually my natural color.)
-I don't miss only getting complements the first two weeks after a relaxer.

I don't miss any of those previously mentioned, plus I don't miss:

* bringing my flat iron to the gym
* the smell of burnt hair when I flat ironed my hair
* burning my ears, forehead or neck when flat ironing
* hair products that were greasy/smelly
* dreading wash day
* trying to make my hair "curl"
* wrapping my hair at night
* putting relaxer on my ebds b/c they were "frizzy"
* self-trimming my "frizzy" ends
* feeling like a hypocrite when I'd tell my DD to emrace/love her naturally curly hair
* explaining to men/non-AA ppl why my hair couldn't get wet/washed every day-or more than once a wk
* feeling defensive about my hair "not growing"

girrrl, yes! i used to put the relaxer on my entire head because i saw one of my girlfriends do it when she did with those at home relaxers. I never thought about my hair growing either it was what it was and i thought it would be that length forever.

I think it was not until i chopped all my hair off (the short halle look) and it started to grow back fast. That i was like whoa, my hair grows! After that i want to take care of it. I was still relaxed but i cut it off the next year.

I don't miss....
- Feeling jealous whenever a natural-haired lady would walk in to the salon with beautiful curls
- Going to the salon every week and spending $40 bucks
- Having a stylist laugh at me when I'd say "don't trim today, I'm trying to grow out my hair"
- RUNNING from the rain. Now I enjoy the rain, makes my hair prettier!

Honestly I can't believe I would spend so much time at the salon, period! Now my weekends are free!
