Default IC Fantasia w/sparkle lites, ecostyler (clear), long aid

I've been dying for a cheap alternative gel since KCCC is $30 now !! and after the raves on these gels I tried them all but I couldn't get any of them to work for me... I liked the long aid because it didn't dry crunchy, but idk maybe i just don't kno how to apply gel... like at all! I rake the product through my hair because scrunching makes it way too big! I didn't really experiment too much with the ecostyler since I put it in my hair and it turned into a rock! right now I've been using the fantasia IC gel to put my hair up and it feels like I have absolutely nothing in my hair, but I can't even get that to work for me either when I want to leave my hair out. I've only gotten somewhat nice results with KCCC and I think more and more that both times it was pure luck!
The pictures were the 2 different times KCCC worked, but they were my ONLY "good hair days" since I started CG.

I usually keep my hair up in a bun because when I try to rake in other gels the results are just gross! I won't even dare post that pic up! Can someone suggest better gels that are on the cheaper end of the spectrum because I'm so tired of pulling my hair back everyday... And I really want to leave it out. Also maybe suggest a better method since I really don't kno how to scrunch or rake in the cheaper gels... TIA!!

ETA: I'm going to post this in 4a too, because getting a better look at these pics I think I might be 4a all around... I guess 3c was just wishful thinking on my part. lol

Not so sure on the elasticity, but I don't think I have a very good moisture/protein balance and my hair is ubber dry, so I'm going to go with low... of course I could be very wrong.

Regimen:
Cowash/RO: HEHH, AIA Coconut Cowash
PT: Ion Effective Care Treatment
DT: Any condish with EVOO+Honey
LI: SM CES or PM The conditioner
Styler: EcoStyler Olive Oil, KCCC, or Let's Jam

For me ORS Twist and Lock gel works works wonders on my hair. It works better than KCC, IMO.

Thanx I never even heard of this gel before, but I just did a quick search and it got pretty good reviews, so I'm willing to give it a try. I think deep down I'm a PJ, I'm just to poor to indulge as much as I want to. lol.

when you rake it through your hair do you section your hair first/apply it in small sections?

@ subbrock: no I don't think I do... But I realized that's because I've been trying to get similar results to what I get from the KCCC so I've been doing the application the same... Which is to pretty much take small blobs of KCCC, emulsify it in my hands with a little bit of water and then rake it in. First I do the sides, then I flip my head upside down and do my nape and the top of my head. Then I flip back up and I kind of tilt my head from side to side to get the style how I want it. This worked great with KCCC when I did it today, but I tried doing it with the long aid and it didn't work out well. The long aid doesn't give me the definition I get from the KCCC.

So I've officially realized that none of these gels are going to give me the definition I get from KCCC... grrr! so maybe if I used something before to get really good definition, then the gel I layer over it won't matter. (hopefully!)

Soooo.... any suggestions for sort of cheap producs that provide incredible definition are welcomed!

Default Application is EVERYTHING...

I've never tried KCCC since it costs so much but I really like long aid. You might be the first person I've seen that didn't love it. mmmm. I realize that I can get very different results depending on how I use products and how much I use. I like to detangle then add long aid to hair that drips just a bit. I get the best results when I smooth it only my hair. Kinda like you might put lotion on your legs in long strokes. I try to lightly cover strands of my hair with the gel. The more even I spread the product, the more consistent my results. I turn my head upside down and put gel all along the outside (like I'm going to put my hair in a high ponytail) then I attach the crown of my head and the canopy below my crown by parting the hair a bit. If I see a good youtube video I'll attach it.

someone just suggested the LA sports gel to me, and I'm going to try it soon, but I have 2 other gels that I'm trying to finish first... (I returned the ecostyler because it made my hair way to hard!) but as soon as I've made room I'm going to buy some. lol.
