Default Confused..

My hair is probably.. mainly 3c with some 3b and very little 4a (spirals).. and I have no idea what to do with it. Oils seem to just stay on the surface of my hair.. and leave grease on anything they touch . The only styling butter I've used is Blended Beauty.. and I will never use it again. Besides that my hair is extremely thick and dry most of the time.. that's about all I know about my own hair.. I really need to find some products that work..

In addition, my hair is now too short for ponytails, buns, and basically almost everything I used to do to protect my hair.. and I don't have any leave conditioner/gel to protect my hair from California's constant heat waves.

Wow...a little frustrated, uh! Sounds like you need lots of moisture. Are you doing the CG method? If not maybe you should try it. Also consider switching your products as it sounds like it's not working for you.

Everyone one is different, but consider the following:

Herbal Essence Hello Hydration (it really leaves hair moisturized and I only use the conditioner, I don't shampoo).

Carol's Daughter Hair Milk, Hair Balm (softens and adds moisture)

There are some good products out there. You haven't found the right ones for you. Good Luck!

It sounds like you might be in need of a good conditioner, especially a good leave in conditioner. I personally use Giovanni Direct Leave In and I think it's a pretty good leave in conditioner that you can find at Walmart, Target, and other drug stores. You can pretty much use any conditioner as a leave in conditioner, so try some and see what works for you.

I have short hair too, so I just do wash and go's and use headbands and hair clips. HTH!

I have very thick(wiry hair). Oils seem to just sit on my hair too.

I love Trader Joe's Nourish Spa mixed with Honey and EVOO. Very conditioning, I use it just about every day and it has made a real difference.

To style you might consider trying Long Aid Activator gel under Ecostyler - either the clear or the brown - I've tried both.

You can see pics of my results with this combination here. The results are nice.

If you want and even softer hold, you might consider Curls by Sister Smith's wet set pudding. You have to order online, but the price is nice.

Yeah, I think I am.. the CG method is the one with no shampoo? I didn't memorize all the terms yet.. I think I might also need a little weight to my hair.. hopefully something that elongates my curls..
I did try the hello hydration though.. did about nothing

Have you determined your hair texture and porosity yet? If not, you can go here and read about how to do that. This site has an e-book as well that is worth purchasing and downloading. It makes for great reference material for you and anyone else who is interested in learning how their hair responds to different ingredients. This will help you to know what ingredients will benefit your hair type. If you have fine hair you will need products that contain protein. If you have coarse hair, you should stay away from heavy proteins and use more emollient ingredients, etc.

I don't believe that curl typing systems tell the whole story. They are great for the fun of visually identifying your curl pattern but they have nothing to do with how you care for your hair based on the science of hair.

Happy reading!

Here are my two cents:

Deep conditioning, leave-in conditioner, and protective styling can definitely help.

My hair is very dry, yet it cannot tolerate oils , so I have to look for certain ingredients in hair products. The ingredients that provide moisture without the greasy feeling are: Behentrimonium Methosulfate, glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol and Cetrimonium Chloride.

Here are some suggestions:
Aveeno Nourish + Condition Leave-in Treatment

CJ Hibiscus and Banana Deep Fix Moisturizing Conditioner
Jessicurl Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment

Styling Aids:
Donna Marie Lock and Twist Pudding
CJ Hibiscus and Banana Honey Butta Leave-in

Don't worry, you'll find a solution!
