How do you use Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner?

Ok so I decided to try one of the mentioned leave ins on the 3c, 4a, 4b forums which was Paul Mitchell's The Conditioner. I was dying to use some of the other ones but either I couldn't find them in my area or I have to order them online...

I used PM the conditioner after I i pre pooed, shampoo, and rinsed out conditioned my hair (I usually follow the no poo method but shampoo about every 4-6 wks or when i have build up) I used garnier fructis new curl & shine shampoo and conditioner. My hair felt fabulous...I'm not sure if it was the new shampoo and conditioner or the fact that this was my first time giving myself a pre-poo treatment. Anyway after I rinsed out the fructis conditioner I left my hair dripping wet and put a shower cap on my head cuz I had to run an errand...when I put PM the conditioner in my hair in sections and my hair came out puffy with very little curl definition so i rewet my hair and put in some ic fantasia blue gel...i regained a lot of definition because of the gel but my hair ended up really crunchy. My hair ranges from types 3c-4a but i didn't feel like PM conditioner was effective...is it possible that I wasn't using it right? How should PM the conditioner be used?
This conditioner tends to give a more fluffy/natural look if left alone(no styling products). It doesn't necessarily define the hair. When I use it, I emulsify it in my hands first(with dry hands) and apply to damp(not soaked) hair. Most of the time, I leave my hair be. But if I want a more polished/defined look, I layer the Fantasia IC gel overtop; about a quarter size amount to four sections of hair. Afterwards, I plop for about 10 minutes and let air-dry the remainder.
A wonderful mix of coils, curls, corkscrews, and kinks.

Thank You shygirl I will definitely try this! I looked at you yahoo album and your hair is absolutely beautiful! I have been natural for about 1.5 yrs and I use to have curls very similar to your but up until a couple of months ago...recently my curls have been undefined and my curls look smaller in size and won't clump like they use to...What is your haircare regimen and do you have any advice on how I can bring my curls back to life?
Thanks sweetie!

Hmmm......Could your hair be overconditioned? I know that some curlies experience less definition when they overcondition their hair. Or if their hair needs a break from all the styling products. Could you have buildup also? Sometimes I just use a leave in and leave my hair be to give it a break, or put my hair in twists for about 4-7 days, and then wear a twist out for as long as it looks decent.

For me, less it more. The more products I use(gels especially), the less curl I retain. Right now, I wash once a week with Curls Curlicious Cleanser(or as needed). I CO rinse 3 times a week with Elucence(though my hair has sorta been laughing at this lately when I use it for rinsing). I've also use the DevaBrown OneC(which I absolutely LOVE, but it's just to expensive for my taste). For my leave in, I've been using the Curls Milkshake under the Curls Spirals Cream. But before using the Milkshake, I used Elucence(and actually still do; it's been working better as my leave in than CO conditioner).

I've also been alternating with BB Curly Frizz Pudding and Styling Butter Cream. These are also good products for defining your hair. They don't give a firm hold, but I haven't had any problems attaining 2nd or 3rd hair using these. When I use these, I use the butter first and then layer the frizz pudding. I don't use a leave in when I use these. The butter functions as my leave in as well as styler.

your welcome! (sorry i took so long to reply i was having internet problems )

I was wondering myself if my hair was overconditioned...my friend told me that it isn't because she knows what it looks like since her friends hair was overconditioned; but still you never know. I still have a lot of definition but my curls just seem to be smaller in size. I have been finger combing my hair all summer instead of using a generic D3 denman brush. Do you think this would make a difference in my curl size? Do you have any idea what you are suppose to do if your hair is overconditioned?I don't condition my hair too much...i usually co wash a couple of times a week with a light conditioner like VO5.

But I think your right about your second guess. I may need a break from all my styling products. I have been using styling products continuously all summer and I am afraid I have become a pj How do you know when you have build up? I haven't done a set of twists since april. I think my hair could definitely use a break. I plan to put extention twists in my hair within the next two weeks

Thank you so much for answering my questions shyygirl...I will try some of these products that you have used and see how they work for me.
I know for some reason this made my hair really dry and frizzy. I was not pleased at all. My hair is still dry and recovering. I don't know, maybe some ingredient just doesn't agree with my hair. *sigh* i'm touching it now and it feels hard.
3b/3c/4a african-asian mix. Using: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, Suave coconut condish, Aveda Sap Moss products, fantasia IC gel, some phyto products.
I would use it after spraying my hair first with Paul Mitchell's Awapuhii Mist. I liked the combo, but just didn't care really for either scent enough to use them long-term.
