3b Girls can you please..

describe to me your hair when it is wet.

Is it wavy or straight and then as it dries it becomes curly?

When you brush it when wet does it wave or curl or stay as it is?

I'm asking because I am about 8 months into my transition and I should have a considerable amount of new growth. I cut my hair to sl and therefore I dont really have that much relaxed hair left. BUT when my hair is wet it is straight almost! I know that the weight of the relaxed ends can weigh hair down but still? I am positive that my natural hair stops at about neck length and I have about 3 -4 inches of hair left that is relaxed and stops at my shoulders.

I'm just curious as to why my hair when wet looks like this. I got out of the shower yesterday and brushed my hair with my knock off denman and it just sat there literally . In the shower before I apply my gel I brush with my "denman" and I can feel my hair with my hands and it will wave up for a second and then go back straight (I hope that makes sense).

However when I apply gel the curls lock and form medium sized waves.

Does this sound strange to you? I am starting to freak out help!

ETA: Hope this all makes sense, Im sure it looks like a bunch of rambling but Im just trying to see if it is normal for my hair to respond this way when wet. I was a little startled yesterday.

I have 3A/3B hair, and it's curly when it's wet, usually with ringlets. It curls up more when it dries.

I don't have any experience with transitioning though, so I can't help you there

fine texture, med porosity

Co-wash:
GTTT, Live Clean, EO Sweet Orange
Condish: Calia, AO Rosa Mosqueta/White Camellia/Honeysuckle Rose/Island Naturals/GPB, ABBA Pure Gentle, Desert Essence Shea Butter
DT: Usually just use one of my richer conditioners, sometimes add oils or honey
Gels: Homemade FSG!!!, Druide, BRHG, Alba Soft Hold Style Cream,

experimenting with: honey, agave, oils, butters, ACV, Curls Milkshake, more conditioners

I have 3B with a tiny amount of 3c or it could just still be 3b, for all I know. When my hair is wet the ends are straight and the middle of my hair has a wave and then the top is just a little bit more wavier. Then when it dries the ends are straight (because they're stupid) the middle is a curl and it gets smaller near the top but at the top it waves. I hope that makes sense.
I would say my hair type is loose curls-tighter waves-botticelli ringlets

-When my hair is wet, it is a looser curl pattern (probably 2c) and reaches shoulder-length.

-When I finger comb it while wet, it remains almost straight for a few seconds and then coils up back to the 'wet-hair' curl pattern.

-When my hair is styled and is dry, it shrinks up to my chin. That's a 9cm/nearly 4 inch shrinkage factor.

no worries my hair is strait as strait can be when i'm in the shower! then once the water starts to drip away it gets curlier and curlier. then i add product and it goes from strait wet to now about 3b curls. (it use to be 2c/3a and just recently changed even thought i started cg 8 months ago. long transition maybe idk.) so don't worry it's just how some hair works.
Mine is straight when wet, then curls up...but you should NEVER brush hair when it is wet!!!

Idk maybe a licensed hairstylist, and pretty much every other stylist out there. I do agree that a wide tooth brush might work but why not try a wide tooth comb? Your hair might not see breakage from a brush but I think when you are advising others you have to be careful not to suggest something that might cause damage. Beauty school 101.
My hair is loosely wavy when wet. Shrinks as it dries, about 3-4" shrinkage.

My corkicelli curls are pretty straight in the shower when soaking wet. I can tell if it really likes a rinse out, because it starts to "S" in the shower. It gets curlier when I scrunch in products and scrunch out water with my CLU clothe.

My hair is loosely curled ringlets and waves on top when wet. As it dries I have a lot of length shrink and my curl patter clumps into some large bunches of curls ( the top tends to remain wavy 2c most often). I end up mostly 3b with some 3a / 2c just to create some chaos! I admit my curl pattern might be distorted from highlighting damage though.

My hair is currently much longer than my profile picture...
My hair is wavy when wet. I also use a brush on wet hair everyday. Always have with no ill effects...

On my EVO
My hair is ringlet curly when wet.
All bets off on finding the perfect products for the curls - focusing on regrowing (50%) hair loss due to
A) Depo Provera (injectable birth control)
B) seborrheic dermatitis
C) stress/diet
My curls are very loose when it's wet, but then they start shrinking when my hair is drying (3b-3c).
I'm in a similar situation, I have relaxed, damaged ends and I'm currently transitioning. My hair has been all over bleached in a color correction (by a very amateur stylist) and so now even most of the regrowth is somewhat straightened (it's still 3b, or atleast a mix of 3a and 3b, its just not as springy, and I have maybe an inch of virgin hair regrowth. When my hair is wet it's pretty much 2b all over. As it dries the transitioning ends curl up to 2c, the bleached but not relaxed get to 3a, and the regrowth looks to be around 3b. Note that I have the kind of hair that is flatter and wavier on top and (if it were healthy) forms corkscrew curls and spirals at the ends. My hair is pretty long too, APL when curly, almost waist length when straight, so yes, the damaged ends definitely do weight your regrowth down. Also, I have a few pieces of bleached regrowth that are only around 3/4 inches long that curl up to 3b, they just don't have the springiness of healthy hair. *sigh* I can't wait until my hair grows out, I miss my corkscrew curls!

mean thy have the years of experience that ppl have from doing their own hair and studying techniques online what works and doesn't work. so perhaps YOU shouldnt be the one suggesting something that could cause damage...and that's just real talk 101

Its a beauty, natural hair, food, family, and life all combined into one blog. I took a break from it for awhile but I recently started blogging again and Im addicted!

my tumblr natural inspirations and beauty: http://sophiams85.tumblr.com/

My hair looks wavy when is wet as it get dries it becomes curlier. I never (never ever) comb my hair when its dry otherwise I would definatelly archive a weird jackson five style! I use a wide tooth comb or sometimes when I feel like it just comb it with my fingers under the shower. According to the curly girl method you shouldn't touch a comb at all! But I can't. I like the sensation of combing and detangling my hair. I like it when the ringlets are uniform, besides who would like to go out with a messy hair? Although I know some moms from my daughter's school that look like they haven't combed their hair in weeks! lol.
Unless there was a post deleted nobody was 'advising' anyone, well except for ur attempt. If I was to try to put a brush through my hair when it was dry I would probably end up having to cut the thing out. If licensing is everything then why did a LICENSED doctor kill my aunt, licensed psychiatrist commit suicide, or licensed drivers get into wrecks? Just because you took what 1800 hours, right, of 'class' doesn't mean u know it all, hell if that was the case there would be no reason for this forum, this site, and none of us curlies would have any problems getting questions answered, beautiful hair, or great hair cuts, we could walk into any salon and have just anyone do our hair bc they are 'licensed'. Man wouldn't that be nice!!!!! And along with that, many licensed hairstists will tell curlies to comb or brush their hair when saturated sopping wet with a great slip conditioner to keep from causing damage. I'm not licensed but I've had 24 years of experience
