Curlies: How do you do winter?

I have enjoyed my curls during the summer months. Unfortunately, the luxury of leaving the house with my hair wet will be ending soon. I was wondering, "How do you do winter and Why? Please advise!
I wash my hair early evening or sometimes early afternoon. So it basically has all night to airdry. The next morning I always wake up with completely dry curls. This routine has been something that I practice all year round when it comes to washing and drying my hair. Also I detangle my curls while they are soaking wet, apply my styling cream of choice on soaking wet hair, and then just let my curls airdry. I only wash my hair every 5-7 days normally, but during the Fall/Winter Season I like to sometimes stretch the amount of days before washings to anywhere between 7-10 days. In between washings to style my curls, I'll apply my curl refresher first and then apply my styling cream over that, or just apply my styling cream only to revive my curls.

I also do DT with heat every time I wash my hair, to keep my hair in good condition during the Fall/Winter Season. And I make sure to oil my scalp 3 times a week during this time, to keep my scalp healthy and avoid increased dryness of course.

SYB, what curl refresher and gel do you use?
Some good hair days

Don't worry about what other people think. They don't do it very often.
Thanks for your response, SYB! I guess I should explain the origins of my questions. I cut my permed ends this summer and my hair is 100% natural. I read that curlies have different routines in the colder months than the warmer months, such as using different products, changing hair styles, etc. I read that certain products don't work as well in the winter than the summer, that your hair must be protected from the cold weather, i.e. prone to breakage, that your hair changes so a different routine is necessary, etc. I just want to be prepared as much as possible. Another problem for me is that I have been unsuccessful in acheiving second day hair. I mean hair that doesn't come out like a frizz ball, but I will save that issue for another tread.
Beeniegal, I use Curls Quenched Moisturizer paired with either Curls Souffle or Curls Whipped Cream during the Fall/Winter Season. And when I am in the mood for a switch I use Miss Jessie's Baby Buttercreme, which is an-all-in product. During the Fall/Winter Season I don't use any gel at all. I like to use cream stylers only, and the heavier the better!

Justice, congrats on going natural! I will tell you that I have come to realize that natural hair needs lots of moisture year-round, which is why I use a variety of creams in my hair throughout all 4 seasons. How successful our hair responds to seasonal weather is based alot upon what we use in our hair of course. But if you find a good group of products for your hair, rarely should you have to go out and buy something else. And yes 2nd day hair is achievable, but it all goes back to the products that we use in our hair. I only wash my hair a maximum of 1 or maybe 2 times a week, so I just refresh my dry hair with the same products basically that I used on my soaking wet hair. I sleep on a Satin Pillowcase always, but if you don't have a Satin Pillowcase you can always use a satin bonnet or tie your hair with a satin or silk scarf. I use my KombBrush to detangle my hair while it is soaking wet everytime after I wash my hair, because it does the job of a comb and brush together, and is not rough on my hair at all.

There are a lot of good lines out there for you to choose from to maintain your natural hair such as: Blended Beauty, Curls, or Curl Junkie.

Here's a list of products that I feel would work extremely well for your hair:

Curl Junkie Hibiscus and Banana Deep Fix Conditioner
Curl Junkie Hibiscus & Banana Honey Butta Leave-In
Curl Junkie Hibiscus Bliss Moisturizing Shampoo
Curls Milkshake
Curls Cleansing Cream
Curls Asian Hair Tea Conditioner
Curls Quenched Moisturizer
Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles
Blended Beauty Kick For Curls Spriz

Too bad (for me) they're all Curls products, SYB. I've sampled most everything from the Curls line and wasn't too fond of any them, to tell the truth. Though I have to admit that the Quenched moisturizer was my favorite, but nothing to phone home about. So, the quest continues for second day hair (and a winter routine that doesn't consist of me wetting my hair every morning )

Sorry to hear that!

I also use Miss Jessie's Baby Butercreme too, but that stuff is so pricey, but it doesn't take a lot to see results with it, which is why I can honestly see my 16oz jar lasting me for a year or so. You can also try the Blended Beauty & Curl Junkie products that I have listed above too, and see how they work out.

Good Luck

Thanks again SYB, I just received my Curl Junkie product today (the coco cream, one) and I will take your advice. On Saturday, I attempt (again) second day hair. I'll let you know how things go. I think I will try a silk pillow case too, because the silk scarf smashes my hair and I believe that contributes to alot of the frizz when I attempt second day hair. Another thing, do you dampen your hair or do you re-wet your hair before applying your products for second day hair.
It all depends on the products that one uses really. I like using all-in-one product like Miss Jessie's Baby Buttercreme now, that doesn't require to dampenor wet my hair beforehand with it. So I am able to get away with just applying this creme to my dry hair in the morning.

Now when I use Curls styling products I always use Curls Quenched paired with any of them to dampen my hair first. This helps to make the products penetrate deeper and faster. But because all of my Curls styling products can be used on wet and dry hair, I could use them by themselves if that's what I choose.

But if a product says that it is to be used on wet hair only, then I usually stay away from these types of products. Because then I won't be able to use it on my hair when its dry on the 2nd day. Also I only really get my hair wet mainly 1 or maybe 2 times a week, when I wash it. So if you could refrain from washing it no more than 1 or times a week, that would be best.

I haven't heard much about Curl Junkie's Coffe-CoCo Cream, but everything about their Hibiscus and Banana products! So definitely let me know how it works out for you because if not, then you can always try the Hibiscus and Banana Honey Butta Leave-In, which you can definitely use on wet and dry hair with no problems. And you wouldn't have to dampen or wet your hair first beforehand everyday with it either.

I used the Curl Junkie (Coco Cream) and my hair is currently a big soft poof ball. If I could wear a hat at work, I would. I have gotten complements, but it's poofy. I did my hair last night to try to avoid going out in the cold air with a wet head. I slept on my arms so that I wouldn't mash my hair. The end result, little sleep and poof. There has got to be a bettter way!
Sorry that it didn't work out for you! Honestly I wished that you could still try Curl Junkie's Hibiscus and Banana Honey Butta Leave-In, Curls Milkshake or Happy Nappy Styles instead! I honestly don't have much faith in Curl Junkie's CofeeCoCo Cream which is why I never recommended it.

At least try and see if you can sell it here on the Swap/Sell Board so that you can get some money back on it! Until you actually do have a chance to try the products that I recomended for you, just try using Smooth N Shine's Activator Gel just to refresh your curls each morning, and see how that temporarily works!

Thanks SYB,

You've been great! I am a PG and I have a lot of products, Ms. Jessie's, Curls, Curl Junkie, and the list goes on and on. My problem is that I go by the recommended product chart on the company's website. This weekend, I will buy some Blended Beauty products, the Curl Junkie product you recommended, and Curls Milkshake, because the Curls curl enhancer and whipping cream are not working for me. I use to use KCCC and IC gel and it worked for me. I don't know why I stopped using it. I have Ms. Jessie's Buttercream, not Babycream so, I will revisit that product this weekend. I will do my hair tonight and in the morning I will use the buttercream to refresh my curl. Wish me luck
I definitely will keep my fingers crossed for you! And you can PM me anytime with any questions or concerns that you might have.
