Dissappointed with Curls Milkshake

Last weekend I used the Curls Milkshake Moisturizer and I wasn't extremely pleased with the results. The first time I used it (I think I used too much) I added very little Let's Jam Shining and conditioning gel for curl definition. The Curls product lengthened my hair but I lost curl definition but my hair felt really soft. The second time I used less of it and a lot more Let's Jam. My hair looked like I'd been in a Brazilian rainstorm. I am really trying to find the right product for my hair that's easy to use and that provides moisture. I'm thinking about going back to using Paul Mitchell the conditioner but I really wanted to stick with natural products. Maybe I used it wrong?

Also I wanted to know how some of you ladies upload a pic for your profile. I wanted to post a pic of my curls but it was too big to upload.
Thanks.

Sorry it didn't work for you; every head is different. When I first tried the sample, I didn't get it either. Something just made me pick it up again and tried it on almost dry hair in the shower, and it was an epiphany. I got day 2 hair. Yesterday I used it for the first time on very wet hair (CurlKeeper, then Milkshake) and got no frizz. You don't have to use much on wet hair.

Using Curls Milkshake paired with Let's Jam Hair Gel will not yield you good results at all, unfortunately! Try instead using Curls Milkshake with a different gel this time that doesn't contain mineral oil. One that I would recommend you using it with is Proclaim Activator Gel(you can find it at any Sally's) or even Smooth N Shine's Activator Gel(which you can find just about everywhere) over it too. I have used Let's Jam hair gels before, and didn't like any of them, because they would always leave my hair a greasy mess! Now Curls Milkshake will soften and smooth your curls naturally, as well as help to revive them. Its job is mainly to soften and hydrate, as it is not classified as a curl enhancer. And you definitely don't need to use that much Curls Milkshake for it to do that either. Also when applying the gel to your hair make sure that you don't use too much either.

In using new products sometimes, it does take a little-bit of trial and error before we start to see results, so definitely don't feel discouraged!

I use Curls Milkshake and love it!.. i use it in semi wet hair , almost dryed. i put a lil bit in my hand , rub together, then scrunch it in . then i scrunch in a few good globs of gel of choice . right now its a suave gel. then i diffuse a lil .. great clumpy curls with volume , it seems like curls milkshake gives me better volume then any other creme recs i have tryed so far , i just ordered the big tub of the Curly Q milkshake today!. its my new HG of cremes for this winter .

I use Clairol Herbal Essenses Humidity Defying gel (discontinued ). There's also Suave Anti-frizz, CHE Set me up, brands mentioned in these replies. IC Fantasia (blue, not clear) may also work, although I haven't combined with Milkshake yet -- it has a high aloe-vera content. I paid $$ for the Milkshake so I try to stay cheap with the gel.

Thanks Ladies. Let's Jam is out! I'll try Curls Milkshake again. What's is CHE Set me up?

I tried Curls Milkshake again. It does what it says, detangling hair and making it soft. I prefer using it on wet hair. Very pleased. I also bought the CHE set me up gel. This gel doesn't work well on my hair at all. This product is sticky and it flakes. Extremely disappointed. Still looking for a new gel. I'll try proclaim.

I've been trying for a few weeks to get Milkshake to work for me. I think I finally have a good combo. First I was trying it with Curls Spiral cream...I really wanted to like this stuff...mmmm smells so yummy...but just not enough hold.
This weekend I used Milkshake on wet hair....let airdry for a few...then a little Recoil...waited a few then topped with HE Totally Twisted (I switched to this after using HE SMU during the summer..with the cooler weather I am loving Totally Twisted). This combo worked great for me...my curls were so soft and had some clumping action...and I had plenty of hold..but not too much.
I really think the difference was adding the Recoil...I was trying all different combos and I started getting good results when I added this.

ITA...no mineral oil! Bad, bad...I would also add low (or no) glycerin-based gel either.

I thought glycerin was moisturizing...I guess it's not when used in a gel??

Just trying to get my products straight...should I stop using Fantasia??

thanx

With Milkshake many people need more hold not more moisture. And mineral oil is just not a good thing for anyone's hair. When I want more moisture, I tend to go for natural oils as mix-ins to product.

Thanx for the clarification. So, I can use Fantasia with a leave-in like Nexxus Headdress (one of the only ones I could find in the store that didn't have cones)? It's not heavy...but I do add honey and olive oil to it. Something was drying my hair out...I was hoping it wasn't the fantasia. I think it was the ORS Olive Oil lotion, which contains a bunch of cones....and so did Pm the conditioner which I was using on a regular basis.

Now I've switched to EVOO+Honey+Headdress+Fantasia. I tried to give up fantasia for ORS twist and loc gel, but it just wasn't working... I guess I need to break down and get Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner
