I wasn't crazy about the scent of Elixir myself, and I usually like Aveda scents. Does he like the IF scent? I'm not trying to enable your PJ, but I really like the way the Curls line smells. Have you tried doing a honey rinse as your final step in the shower/sink? I've really been liking that lately.
It seems to give my curls a little boost.
