Shampoo bars-- I wanna say yay, but so far, nay! ):

I use the CV Ayurvedic. I also go the waxy, tangly feeling but doing the ACV rinse gets rid of the waxiness. My conditioner takes care of the tangles. I was nervous that i had messed up my hair the first couple of times but I noticed that my hair retained more moisture and looked shinier throughout the week.
4a/b Texlaxed hair w/ highlights. Medium texture & high porosity.

I've decided to purchase Laquita33's shampoo bar set once I get the chance.

If I don't like them, I'll see if my boyfriend's hair/skin respond well to them. CV bars made his skin and hair as dry as mine.

He has different texture and porosity than me, so we'll see!

I want to get two of those flower clips too, how cute!

I received sample bars of CV soaps and shampoo bars.

I got the Ayurvedic Herb poo bar, Aloe soap bar, Butter Bar Conditioner poo bar, and some others strictly for face and body (including orange creamsicle, i'm worried the citrus will dry out my hair further.)

I've tried them all and it's all the same: brillo pad-like, tangly, and waxy residue left on my scalp.

I tried lathering once, lathering twice, following up with an ACV rinse, letting the foam sit, rinsing out immediately, everything! Still yucky.

I was just wondering if anybody (maybe with texture/porosity/etc. similar to mine) had similar results and/or success with different shampoo bars, CV or otherwise..

I really want to like shampoo bars. i do like using them, it's more fun to use than liquid shampoo and it lasts longer for sure!

thanks in advance, curlies! <3

@ twirlygranny thanks for the tip of KMF! I just checked out there website and their product rating on GoodGuide.com and the soaps rated very well. I got some coupons from their website and will be making a purchase in a few weeks.

If you don't mind could you share your wash/condish regimen when using the KMF bar?

I have A KBB Juicy shampoo bar, but have not used it yet. How often does one use these? right now, I shampoo once a month- usually co washes apart from that....I am afraid to use it and strip my hair, though when I went to the KBB store, they said it was safe to use 1-2 times per week

I think my hair is probably the polar opposite of yours (fine, low porosity, thin)--but I had the same reaction.
There are a lot of us with looser curls who have problems with the Chagrin Valley bars--for most of us, it's the castor oil. (it was discussed a lot about two years ago on the general forum, when shampoo bars were the rage.If I hadn't used a bar, with fabulous results, before using one from Chagrin Valley, I would have never used another. My hair was left a tangled mess--and my hair doesn't tangle! I gave the rest of the samples I bought away.

Originally, I wasn't sure if it was the shea butter, avocado or castor oil. I've since used bars with both shea butter and avocado oil and my hair likes both very much. I think the bars are one of the biggest reason for the positive results I've seen with my hair. For me, they are MUCH better then cowashing and gentler than lowpoo.

Please don't give up on shampoo/soap bars until you try some with other ingredients.

@ kathymack-if the shampoo opens the cuticle, and the rinse closes it, do I condition in between, or after the rinse? Thanks!

There's a local soap place that makes their own shampoo bars. They aren't specifically for curly hair/natural hair. Is this okay or is there something special in ones everyone else is using?

If you stay with hand crafted soap that is made by the cold process method, I think you'll be fine. These bars have oils, that have been saponified with lye. If the bars are made correctly, the result is soap with no lye left. The only other additives should be for scent and color. I only buy bars that use natural ingredients for scent and color.

I'm a poo bar fanatic and I rarely use liquid poo. KM is right in that all poo bars aren't created equal and the ingredient list is key.

AV is my fav right now but I still have my rhassoul clay bar (BeeMine) and my shikaki bar (HairVeda) to try out. I used the HV bar yesterday and really liked the result!

Good luck!

I tried leaving ACV in once.. not all of it, but some.. yuck!

I can't stand the smell, at first I thought it was interesting but after having it linger in my hair after a week, it makes me sick!

ACV rinses work wonders on my hair though, I thought the smoothness and shine was my imagination!
