It looks like a chunky twist out on wet hair (it could be a wash and go but twist out seems more likely) with the side pinned up.

It looks a little too fluffy for a wash n' go so most likely it's a chunky twist out, though I don't know whether it was done on wet hair or not. One side was pinned back. It's not complicated, but you won't know whether you'll like the look on you until you do it

It looks like a wash n' go (or twist out) that's a few days old and fluffed out. I would never think to pin it to the side, but it looks good on her.

You could also do cornrows on the side that is pinned up (instead of pinning it) to jazz it up even more. But I agree that a braid-out or twist-out would probably give the best results for this. Good luck and post pics.
