The Best Place to Have Natural Hair?
I was recently talking to a friend who said natural hair just doesn't fly on the West Coast. But our brothers on the East Coast LOVE our hair.
I'm from Texas. Austin specifically, where pretty much anything goes. So of COURSE there are beautiful naturals running around the city.
No doubt, our decision to rock what we got does not depend on the feelings of those around us...but then again, we're ALREADY natural. Those thinking about going natural may be more hesitant to do so (especially if they're young like me) if they don't live in a "Fro Friendly" state, lol.
What are y'alls thoughts? What has your fro been through around the country?
p.s.) that pic is of me (and my afro puff) about to get down at a party!

I agree with the above. Not true that there is no love on the West Coast for natural hair. I rock it with pride, my hubby loves it, I see many natural ladies all the time, in my place of business, in my community, all over and I live in the suburbs in So Cal.

AGREED! but again, that's easy for us to say...we already got it. I just don't know what i'm supposed to tell someone who lives in an environment where she will literally be ridiculed for her decision. everybody here thinks it's cool and wishes theirs would grow like mine. ya know?
and LOL @ Dallas...i lived there before starting school.

I live in the Nations Capital and JUST BC'd... and everyone loves it. EVERYONE. It's great to have such support all around me from randoms and people I have never met.
Yesterday was my BF's first time seeing it, and all he did was play with and unravel my coils.
Safe to say he likes it :-)

I'm also in the DMV and there's mad love for the naturals here. However, I'm from NoCal, and umm...when I go home for the holidays, I'm by far the easiest person to spot because of my hair! This certainly isn't to say that there aren't naturals, but I can count on one hand the total number I saw in the 2 weeks I was at home. Thankfully I love my fro and it doesn't bother me, but my poor grandmother simply can't take it.

I always thought it was the West coast cause all of those commerical models wearing those curly fro's in commercials. However, it seems to be more appreciated on the East coast. I would say City wise NYC is the best. I say that b/c when I lived in NY I got compliments or comments on my hair like everyday, from all races! Miami too. Miami you really have no choice but to be natural cause I can't imagine straight hair lasting more than an hour in MIA. I live in DC now, and I say it's about 50/50. with that being said I would definitely say East coast

Maybe Atlanta is becoming one
I must say that I live in the hair capital of the world Hot Lanta! Of course the ladies here love weaves and long straight light coloured hair. Recently though the natural movement is giving the "Bronner Sisters" a run for their money.
My guess is that in the next 2 to 5 years more and more salons in Atlanta will feature a natural hair stylist or 2.

Best place to have natural hair
Not the Midwest...that's for sure.
But I don't care. I'm still hot no matter where I go.

New England is a great place for naturals, not because of all the stylists (very few black salons can do it up here) but lots of women wear naturals, locs, wash and goes. I get complimented all the time, and I really don't think my hair is the sh-t, especially a 3-day old wash an go.
