I'm a fine low density 4a/3c. My hair doesnt mind protein but not in large doses. My hair doesnt like hardcore proteins like karetin, collagen, and silk amino acids. It likes plant based proteins like soy and wheat. My hair loves moisture and can be fluffed out to look thicker than it really is. My hair doesnt like to be manipulated too much, and doesnt really tangle alot or get single strand knots. My hair is another one that wash and goes get better with age. I've found certain herbs like rosemary help reduce shedding and make my hair appear thicker. So does henna but it messes with my curl patturn.
I am 4a fine. Dense medium strands. Shrinks a lot. Fragile. Protein craving. It's hard to retain length unless I am doing a lot of PS but even that causes breakage when done too much so I plan to increase my deep conditioning treatments and sealing those ends
hair type: 4a VERY dense

My hair LOVES oil 2. "Being natural must be the new crack cus im hooked!!"
“Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections.”
I think I have fine hair but I'm actually not sure. I'm confused lol. My mom has always told me my hair is fine, she has coarse hair. I've done all kinds of comparisons but I'm still not sure which leads me to believe it's medium or medium fine.
I guess the reason I'm so confused is because I have quite a mixture of hair. I have super fine, fine, medium, and coarse hairs all growing in my head. When I look at my shed and broken hairs I'd say there are probably 10 fine ones for every coarse one. But when I examine the hair on my head it looks pretty coarse to me. So the confusion continues.
In comparison to thread my hairs are much smaller. The hair on my hair is much finer than (forgive me) *****, and my leg hairs, but much coarser than my arm hairs.
My hair behaves very strangely. It's insanely thick, it never lays down (like coarse hair, but it could also be due to density and texture). It also doesn't get easily weighted down. However products sit on top and make it look stringy. Now that may seem contradictory but believe me it's true. Nothing makes it lay down or even clump well, but it still comes out looking gross and sticky and stringy. Also it doesn't hold styles well like fine hair.
It's a huge issue because nothing works or comes out right. Heavy products make my hair feel awful and disgusting, and light products work well but of course have no hold.
I'm not sure what to do and I don't have a stylist to help me out. I would post pictures but all my photos are too large of a file to post.
Also for reference my hair is 4a pretty much all around with a tad bit of 3c in the crown. The crown is the only part of my hair that seems to get weighed down, but is also appears to be the most coarse of my hair. It's so strange.
