Alternatives to Afroveda?

OK I have been mad about this since I read about it this morning but seriously, the OP and I need some help from you real pj sistas to hip us onto something else. We all seem to be ready to drop that hot potato mess. Yeah, we can whip shea, and I guess I can get off my a*s and find the ayurvedic ingredients she uses. Meanwhile, I am sooo entertaining thoughts and suggestions on what to try when I don't have the time to do that and my AV stash runs out. I live in the suburbs and, keeping it real, Cali is slow on getting the new-new on the ground. OK, I am being a bit spoiled but can it be someone with less of a customer service hangup than AfroVeda?

I'm looking at trying out Komaza products, particularly the Califia Pudding, Califia Moisturizing Cream and Moku Hair Butter. I really love my AV Cocolatte though.

I would say Qhemet is probably the best ayurvedic line thats out there....her products are moisturizing and they last a LONG time.

Outside of that, you can experiment with buying butter bases from some of the bulk places and adding your own ayurvedic stuff to it.

I've pretty much not ordered anything online in almost 6-7 months, and even that was just replenishing my "old reliables". I'm not up on the new companies that are out. The only ones I can recommend would be Qhemet and Oyin. I don't use KBB anymore because while her prices didn't go up, her sizes went down (which is basicly the same thing). Everything else I use I get on the ground....and I can get Qhemet and Oyin on the ground here in DC.

Sorry I'm not much help.

Wait, y'all were really checkin' for her stuff like that? Hmm. I think her products are good, but I never saw a real benefit in using ayurvedic herbs in products unless you're doing a highly concentrated treatment. Those were always hype ingredients to me, but I didn't mind getting them because the prices were reasonable - I certainly don't think they are worth paying a significant amount for. But that's just me. I have other products that caused me to cross AV off my holy grail list anyway. Here's how it goes, hopefully this is helpful to some:

Cocolatte Moisture Mask --> Oyin Whipped Pudding, Qhemet Burdock Root Butter Cream, Donna Marie Super Butter Cream

Curl Define --> Ohm Sweet Hair Pudding, Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter, Donna Marie Dream Curling Creme

PUR Whipped Gelly --> Komaza Califia Styling Pudding (although they are the same price, Komaza ships in a day or two)

WOW ... Iím really disappointed in this. I have been using the PWG for the past yr... and I was just getting ready to re-stock... this is really pissin me off that just when I find something that works the price increases... absolutely ridiculous.. AND I would still have to wait 2 weeks to get it?? WTH?? Where I come from the increase in cost should be commiserate with better service/product/size increases... This is some bull-ish straight up
Who raises the prices and doesnít improve the service?? Where they do that at!?

What's up with the prices for the oils (the original ones - not the emu oils at the top of the page) being reduced? Is this a permanent or temporary reduction?

Ah I see. Can you just do Amla/ayurvedic treatments on their own to help with scalp issues?

That's all I can say... just wow!

QB products never do me wrong - Love Qhemet Biologics... LOVE Qhemet Biologics!

For an alternative to the PWJ, I think Ori Organics' Mango Curler is a nice one. My braidouts have been gorgeous this week, thanks to it. Not as pudding like, but very similar going on and the performance was exactly the same.

I am really disappointed in her, I really I'm. I LOVED her Cocolatte Mask, Like 32oz jar Loved it!

The curl define and whipped jelly were just ok, I would just order them because I was buying the Cocolatte.

I feel very betrayed as a customer, and will no longer purchase anything from her.

Why do companies do this? Afroveda and KBB

Im just going to start mixing my own butters and using oils exclusively

I love their Fragances though,Does anyone one a place that sells quality Fragance oils??

The Qhemet Burdock root is light, but it packs one hell of a punch. You can also try the amla and olive heavy cream.

Her products are lighter, but I find they absorb MUCH better than most other products.

for those of you hooked on the 'ayurveda' aspect of her line, you will come out just as good buying your own herbs and doing simple deep treatments and/or tea rinses. one monkey don't stop no show... don't lose hope because afroveda has increased prices. buy elsewhere!

shea moisture is doing the dang thing! i would support them (and i do) in a heartbeat.

what about jane carter? well some of her things are kind of expensive but at least you can find them on the ground.

i agree that QB is a great alternative.

have you all tried whipping your own shea butter?
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice
Exactly ain crap that holy about Afroveda, she cant even whip a butter right before trying to jack up some prices.

Can you tell I'm bitter?

Better get your some amla, brahmi, fengrueek, slipperly elm, methi , henna and castor oil and do the damn thing

I just started making my own whipped shea/shealoe - it's easy. I am pondering how I might infuse the ayurvedic herbs into it. I am reseraching on it now for the fun of it and now it might be more useful than I imagined.
Several people have mentioned QB and ORI Organics for some substitutes. I am on it!

I think I typed all that to say - Thanks HippyChic!
