shea moisture is doing the dang thing! i would support them (and i do) in a heartbeat.

what about jane carter? well some of her things are kind of expensive but at least you can find them on the ground.

i agree that QB is a great alternative.

have you all tried whipping your own shea butter?
I do like shea moisture but I also have to order it online. Not a big fan of Jane Carter except her Nourish and Shine. Same issue though. Targets near me don't carry the natural "multicultural" brands. I read somewhere that shea moisture is coming to Walgreens next year - here's hoping and that I can get it near me.
I just started making my own whipped shea/shealoe - it's easy. I am pondering how I might infuse the ayurvedic herbs into it. I am reseraching on it now for the fun of it and now it might be more useful than I imagined.
Several people have mentioned QB and ORI Organics for some substitutes. I am on it!

I think I typed all that to say - Thanks HippyChic!
you can do crock pot infusions or window/sun oil infusions. both are easy.

crock pot infusions: put herbs in bottom of crockpot, pour oil on top (enough to cover the herbs). use about 1/4 - 1 cup of herbs for every 16oz of oil. heat on lowest setting for a few hours. (your home will smell so good!) don't use highest setting and cook your herbs. let cool. strain with cheese cloth or a knee-high and you have herb infused oils. (the important thing to remember is to ensure your oils completely cover your herbs because they will swell and soak up the oil)

window/sun infusion... basically same as above except rather than using a crock pot you put your concoction in a window and let the heat from the sun marinate the oils with your herbs. i do about 1 month. i have infused coconut oil in vanilla pods and it was extremely yummy.

i have used coconut oil, safflower oil or olive oil for my infusions.

eta: @sagehen : you could most certainly infuse your shea butter.

But that's just me. I have other products that caused me to cross AV off my holy grail list anyway. Here's how it goes, hopefully this is helpful to some:

Cocolatte Moisture Mask --> Oyin Whipped Pudding, Qhemet Burdock Root Butter Cream, Donna Marie Super Butter Cream
I find the Burdock Root too light for my strands and do not think it compares to Coco Latte which has more of a whipped butter consistency.

Do you happen to know the consistency of Donna Marie's Super Butter?
Ditto on what NCC said - I find the BRBC lighter (has more water) but more moisturizing than Cocolatte, and I am able to use it easier on wet hair. The Super Butter Cream is thick - Cocolatte seems to be more whipped than it, but the SBC is thicker than the BRBC. It's like a very thick frosting I'd say.

Thanks Hippychic.

I'm feeling too through right now. I went to Afroveda's website and she lowered the prices to the conditioners and compensated by raising the prices of the butters. I don't know what sense that makes.

I'm going to continue using Mozeke's whipped avocado and expreimenting with making my own whipped butter because I do like the Ayurvedic herbs in my products.

I have been on a serious rant on the Hair Boards about this. I have posted my disappointment on LHCF and Curly Nikkit, then I took to YouTube and told my friends about this. After that I took to her FB page and was real irrate and Honest with how jacked up these price hikes are.

I told everyone to run to GoodHairMart and then to Honey Fig before they either sold out or hiked their prices too. Sadly Honey Fig figured out that AV went up so they upped their prices too. Yeah I'm pissed about it too, why hike up your inventory, it's not the new packaging or anything. Anyway... GoodHairMart is sold out now, but I already placed my order this morning so I'm good.

AfroVeda is not getting any more support or my money. I feel in love with her products a few months ago, that which I got from goodhairmart because the order I placed with AfroVeda I still haven't gotten yet. AfroVeda was my replacement to Karen's Body Beautiful price hike and smaller packaging.

So now no more KBB and AfroVeda for me. And I will be ranting about this on a YouTube Video.

PUR Whipped Gelly --> Komaza Califia Styling Pudding (although they are the same price, Komaza ships in a day or two)
I think I PMed you about this way back when you first tried Bee Mine...but I can't remember the answer...have you tried Bee Mine Moisturizer? I ask b/c I loved A/V's Curl Define (tried a sample) but didn't purchase b/c of 2 ingredients. I liked the BM Moisturizer but it didn't do the same thing the CD did at all...and my hair couldn't absorb the DM creme. Are they all similar? Is the BM butter very different than the moisturizer? I'm thinking I may need something this winter...

ETA: I was thinking of DM's other creme...I never tried the new one...scratch that!

I've only tried the Curly Butter, and just recently (a couple of weeks ago). I love it. I haven't tried the moisturizer but I know I have seen mixed reviews for her stuff overall. Sorry I can't help more.

Oh GOTTDAYUM!!!!!!
Is she REALLY for real?
I don't use her products anymore since I had mold growing in a less than 3 week old cocolatte that I got last summer but DAYUM!!!!!
Business will not survive like that. Her stuff is not worth $22. It's just not.
She does not have a stable product yet--butters separating, growing mold, not lasting a reasonable amount of time, smelling like spoiled milk...

I'm sorry to all the women this affects. I would have liked her business to thrive, but this is not a good move. She will lose the rest of her customers who have not already peaced out.

I don't know why business women haven't figured out that fair prices=loyal customers. This is why the originals are still in business and have loyal fans *oyin and qb*
I feel like some people are just throwing some **** together and calling it gold SMDH

I'm done with her and her products. Who's going to buy iffy products at that price? Not I. I think it's time I went back to QB, sigh/

Yo , I'm behind trying to figure out what the deal is.

I was just going to ask about this in Elle's old Afroveda thread that was revived. I've stirred that stuff up so much an it's still oily. Do I need to refrigerate it to get it to not be so oily? I wanted to try out the Curl Define, Heep Seed, and PUR but forget it now. It's not that serious.

Outside of that, you can experiment with buying butter bases from some of the bulk places and adding your own ayurvedic stuff to it.

I've pretty much not ordered anything online in almost 6-7 months, and even that was just replenishing my "old reliables". I'm not up on the new companies that are out. The only ones I can recommend would be Qhemet and Oyin. I don't use KBB anymore because while her prices didn't go up, her sizes went down (which is basicly the same thing). Everything else I use I get on the ground....and I can get Qhemet and Oyin on the ground here in DC.

Sorry I'm not much help.
Yes, I have to agree with this and all other comments about Qhemet. You seriously cannot go wrong with this line. I use the BRBC. It may be light but it's very moisturizing and in my hair it lasted for DAYS which is hard to do. And a little does go a long way. My hair actually gets softer as the days go on.

Nappy_curly_crown where do you buy your Qhemet on ground? Senbeb?

The Cocolatte is the only Afroveda product I've used but I think it definitely matches up to Oyin's Whipped Pudding. I honestly like Oyin's better, and they smell the same too (or damn there close). I was going back to the Whipped Pudding anyway after my Cocolatte was all gone.

Ohm's Sweet Hair Pudding is my favorite styler right now (when the weather has cooled off)! When I braid my hair, this is the only thing I put on my hair and it is soooo moisturized after I undo my braid. I like this stuff so much I'm thinking about ordering another jar right now just to feel good knowing I have another jar tucked away in the cabinet. It's that serious. Plus it smells like bubble gum. Oh and the moisture last for days with the Ohm too.

It helps a little but not much. A few months back I got a Cocolatte that melted in transit and I tossed in the freezer which dried it out well, and then the fridge and a small level of oil showed itself at the top.

This sums it up for me!! Go girl!

It's not unreasonable to feel disappointed, and a little like you're being cheated or your intelligence is being insulted.

This is exactly why I'm a PJ. Have plenty of things that work so that when one falls out of the rotation, its not a major hit. Still though,

I was told that xanthun gum is now being added to the butters to stop them from separating so maybe you can try adding a little to the mix you have already. It might make it more creamy feeling but it will hold the oils in place for you.

i would not add xanthan gum or anything else to a product that is supposedly a finished product. if she had any good business sense, she would offer some type of incentive or credit towards a new purchase for all that separated crap!

I am just saying for the ladies that already have one of the butters and it is nasty and separated, so you can at least use what you have.

I was in no way saying that you should have to add anything to something that you paid good money for because I don't expect to have to do it as well but if you want to at least save the butters you have that are separated.

I'm sorry if it was taken that way, I didn't mean it that way. I was just trying to help you save what you have.
