Any naturals who dont use gel?

I know I'll probably get laughed off NC for suggesting such a thing:-) I'm tired of using gel and would like to try something creamy or lotion based that provides the same hold. Any advice?

I liked esencia by Samy's vanilla texturizing cream. But then they stopped carrying it in stores and I am back to the drawing board. I am doing well with Beautiful Curls by Alaffia's curl activating cream.

I stopped using gel regularly a couple of years ago. I moved to a less humid climate, and I found gel dried my hair out.

I haven't replaced it with anything, I just let the frizzies do their things. LOL

You do not want recs from me today because my hair is looking a hot crispy mess and I'm about to dump some egg and olive oil on it.

I don't use gel on my hair, save the few times I used it last year with my KCC experiments. I prefer a soft look and consistency.

I don't always use gel, but all the products I use to replace it provide a much softer hold. But I like my hair fluffier.

ETA: OP, if you want the hold of a gel, why don't you want to use it? What is it about gel that you don't like?

My hair hates Gel. I have tried so many and the worse for me is thar KCCC or KCKT, God it's awful on my hair.

If for some reason I need hold then I use Eco Styler Olive Oil, Oyin Shine and Define, or even Uncle Funky's Curly Magic.

I always have a nice moisturizer underneath and not even a finger full of those gels above.

Lol I'm on the hunt myself. The best I've used is Garnier Fructis' Curl Sculpting Cream (-gel). It goes on smooth like a cream...none of the hard/roughness of all the gels I've tried. Slightly sticky, but I like that makes me feel like it's working. Next on my to try list is MJ's Curly Meringue.
Yeah.. I don't use gel. I use oil. Don't have anything against gel though.
I did a little experiment today, I skipped the gel:-) I cowashed, used darcys pina colada leave in, moisturized with be mine island mango curly butter, and style with sheamoistore milk. I was very pleased with the results once it airdryed:-) The reason why I wanted to stop using gel was because my hair felt dry by the end of the day. Even using the ecostyler it felt dry.

I've gone through many gels, and have finally given up on most of them. I do use Qhemet Biologic's Honeybush Tea Soft Gel sometimes. Qhemet's has some cream based products like the Burdock Cream or the Amla/Olive Heavy Cream.
Even these natural gellies are drying on me, and make my hair feel gross, just terrible. I used to just do a leave in and an oil. For those of you who use oil to style and get hold, which oil do you find to be the best (moisturizing wise) and how often can you use it without build up because I water wash and style daily and don't know how easily the oil comes off with just water and don't want to get build up. I would love to know what other leave in/curl creams are working for you all.

Curl enhancer: AOMM and KCCC

I also don't use gel.. too drying and it breaks my hair off. I mix a few drops of an oil with a little bit of conditioner (say a quarter size or maybe a bit more), emulsify in my hands, and apply to wet hair. That's my "curl creme".. it does give a bit of very light hold with no crunch.

My staples: Mane n Tail (cowash), Garnier Fructis Sleek n Shine (leave in condish), Grapeseed oil or shea butter (sealing), Organic Root Stimulator Elasticitea (leave-in condish & light hold)
if i wear buns i use gel. however, my version of a wng is just using shea butter to seal on damp hair, no gel. gel worked great when my hair was short. i hate it now that my hair is longer. i do twists with shea butter also. shea butter is my go to aid!
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice
I don't use gel. The only one is the old formula Ouidad Climate Control and then its only on special occasions.

I found that a basic cheap conditioner as a leave in sealed with an oil does the same thing as a gel.

awesome!! This is totally what I'd like to do!! Can you all recommend some good oils that won't sit on the top layer and cause build up./more drying?? And some good leave in conditioners for med. texture hair because I live in a climate where I don't want humectants (it's dry) more emollients, not too much. And for those of you who do this conditioner/with oil, do you think it works to use this method on a daily basis, because i do rewet/style daily.

^^^ try grapeseed, safflower, and argan. Argan is the lightest. But with all three I don't get the dry crispy feeling.
I don't use gel in the winter because of the dryness factor. IF I do use gel, I only use Ecostyler Blue (light hold - not hard). When I need hold, I use pomades like Oyin Burnt Sugar, even shea butter, but my hair is almost always in a PS during that time of year, so its just to slick my edges back.
