I just ordered my organicals deep conditoner on 3/17/12 and I have not gotten it yet. They said it is supposed to ship either on today or after today but I am in houston and they are in austin it normally doesnt take long for me to get stuff. I was wondering about the silk andn honey quat you add to the organicals. Did you buy that from ingredients to die for, essential wholesale or somewhere else? how much do you add? give it to me on spoons or ounces

Came across this article and thought it would help beginners interested in formulation... don't necessarily agree with the emulsifiers to avoid list...

For a more advanced site, I would recommend...

Valana Minerals lied and is repackaging Essential Wholesale?
This is probably the most informative thread I have ever seen! Ive been a lurker here for years but the information on this thread has helped me tremendously!
I've had to stop buying from several people (Brenditas Body Works and a few on etsy) because of this madness. I now contact businesses UP FRONT and ASK if they use bases prior to purchasing. And then of course, I investigate. Now I'm seeing that some of these lines will flat out LIE.
I contacted Valana Minerals about a week ago about their new cream foundation. Never bought from this line before, but I just wanted to make sure the products were TRULY all handmade before I spent my money. I explained to Valerie that I was leery about online businesses because I had had experiences where indie lines would be reselling bases and passing them off as their own...then I asked her straight out are your products TRULY ALL HAND MADE? I SPECIFICALLY told her I was trying to avoid lines that used bases.
I received a really odd response from Valerie about how she couldn't disclose her "trade secrets" and how she formulates her products (never asked this btw) but that I can rest assured that she manufactures her own products.
Did a quick google search and lo and behold.....
Essential Certified Creme
Essential Wholesale Certified Creme: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Cocos nucifera (Organic Coconut) Oil, Camellia sinesis (Organic Green Tea) Extract, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cetyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Palmitate, Punica granatum (Organic Pomegranate) Tincture, Olea europaea (Organic Olive) Oil, Palm Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum)
Valana Minerals Premium Performance Foundation: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Cocos nucifera (Organic Coconut) Oil, Camellia sinesis (Organic Green Tea) Extract , Cetearyl Olivate - Cetyl Palmitate - Sorbitan Palmitate, Punica granatum (Organic Pomegranate) Tincture, Palm Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum), Mica 7019 (12001-26-2); Titanium Dioxide 77891 (13463-67-7); Zinc Oxide 77947 (1314-13-2); Iron Oxide Red 77491 (1332-37-2); Iron Oxide Yellow 77492 (51274-00-1); Mica 7019 (12001-26-2); Titanium Dioxide 77891 (13463-67-7); Zinc Oxide 77947 (1314-13-2); Iron Oxide Red 77491 (1332-37-2); Iron Oxide Yellow 77492 (51274-00-1); Iron Oxide Black 77499 (12227-89-3)
All Valana Minerals lipsticks are Essential Wholesale repackaged as well. I suppose shes adding a pre-blended base of pigment to the Essential Wholesale lotion. I don't really care. My frustration is the fact that I SPECIFICALLY asked if she used bases and I was given the run around and was flat out lied to. I suspect her eyeshadows are also repackaged Essential Wholesale...I remember something similar to this happening with *****slapcosmetics I believe. Again, the issue is the lying and deceit of a business who will tell a customer FLAT OUT that I can "rest assured" that she manufactures her own products and doesnt use bases....when she knew damn well she did.
This bothers me almost worse than the hair care products because the foundation shes selling is $36 for a one ounce. Essential Wholesale's 16 oz bottle of lotion is half the price. Not only that, but the base Valana is using is apparently a special kind that cannot contain additives other than essential oils and fragrance or it will compromise the preservative.
Essential Wholesale on the creme base: " All of the products are designed to be stable with only the addition of essential oils or fragrance oils. Adding herbs or other additives could compromise the preservative system. "
So umm yeah....scratching Valana Minerals off the list for being a liar and having flat out deceitful business practices. She's using bases, and is lying about it and is on top of that adding additives that could throw off the preservative....and knows it.
On a side note, I've recently gotten my order of Essential Wholesale's detangler spray...I found it to be a better moisturizer than a detangler. HOWEVER, the ph balanced pet conditioner (yes the ones for pets) left my hair unbelievably soft! Not impressed with any of the shampoos or the hair masque, but the PET conditioner is the biz at softening.
Keep up the good investigating skills ladies!

Oh, also wanna say that Essential Wholesale's PET Conditioner made an awesome light leave in conditioner!
.....and the Aloe Jelly was really nice, mix a little jojoba oil in my hand and apply wet for my wash n go and my curls looked great but were soft to the touch. and for $4.95 for a 16 oz you cant beat that with a stick!

Wow, I'm a long time lurker and have never posted before but I just wanted to share some important information.
I think cosmetic ingredient suppliers are aware of this thread because I recently received a newsletter from one of the suppliers mentioned in this thread, instructing their customers on how to list and word their ingredient labels to avoid being detected as using a base.
Just a heads up.

Hairveda has me thinking, it seems like Whipped Ends is very similar to a base that has petrolatum in, but if Hairveda is using that base, they aren't listing the petrolatum and they can't be taking it out. So is there a risk of other 'hidden' ingredients in Hairveda? A lot of the bases below are CG anyway, but I am a bit worried about the Sitrinillah DT and the Amala Cream rinse, I had a tester of the DT which seemed nice and the base below looks safe, and I wanted to try the cream rinse, but ....can we trust the ingredient lists for this company?
Would like to like them, as the odd treat!
I'm in the Uk so I couldn't get the bases anyway.

I won't probably use Hairveda in the future because I don't like what I've been reading here! But, right now while I'm still try to get the hang of CG and my hair has got big issues, I'd be prepared to get them once to tide me over till I can find something better. I know it is bases, what worries me is hidden ingredients that might not be CG. How very dare they?! (allegedly).
If the base you guys (thanking you! )found for the sitrinillah dt is right then that should be ok, as the base was cg. The Amala cream rinse I don't know.
Worth the risk?

FOs in commerical products?
Hey Devushka, have you ever had success adding fragrance oils to commercial products (i.e. HE, Suave, etc.)?
I think I'm going to experiment with that using small amounts separated out of my bottle. I know I can "cover up" any fragrance, but maybe "enhancing" or tweaking a products' fragrance could work?
Anyone else?

I've been reading this thread for the past few days and WOW; why didn't I read it sooner. This might be the cure to my PJism, well at least from small business companies. I ordered some conditioner, I'm boosted, my hair is in need of some good DC treatments and I'm thrilled with the price. I need a light gel now, something like Aloe vera, I've been using the drugstore one but I would like an all natural one. I'm mad as hell at TKO products I felt for that stupid Pumpkin mask .

Since a product's scent is so important to me (Seriously, I'll read product reviews to find out what people say about how a product smells as much as how it works on their hair), I pretty much only have products that smell fine to me, so no need to add fragrance oils. I've only added fragrance to the Organicals DC Creme base (which is odorless) and to EVOO and they came out fine.
Btw, I've been havin' a *ball* mixing fragrance oils to come up with new scents to suit my mood. It's one of the additional reasons I'm glad I found out about bases. I can mix fragrance into small batches for single/couple-of-time uses and then come up with another fragrance and mix it into a new small batch when I feel like -- and still have the same product benefits.

Oh, wow -- Sorry! This thread is so useful, don't know why I didn't subscribe to it. I didn't see your question until now. :-/
I bought my SAA and Honeyquat from LotionCrafter.com. I remember comparing prices, different quantities available for purchase, and shipping costs and a combination of those things had me go with them instead of EW or ITDF (although I have made other orders with EW and ITDF).
As far as what I add -- Again, I am NOT a mixtress -- I just go by the suggested usage percentages given at LC.com which is 1% - 2.5% for the SAA and 2% - 5% for the Honeyquat. Going with those suggested usage percentages, I add 2.5 milliliters of SAA or Honeyquat to 4 oz. of the Organicals DC Creme. [I did the math a while ago -- There are approx. 30 ml to an ounce, so 4oz of conditioner = 120 ml.; 2% of 120 ml = 2.4 ml of SAA or Honeyquat.] Since LC.com threw in two, 3 ml droppers with my order, I just fill the dropper up to the 2 1/2 ml mark and add that amount of SAA or Honeyquat.
I’m sure some people get a lot more precise with their measuring, but the “formula” above has worked fine for me (i.e. no adverse effects on my hair. In fact, my hair comes out looking and feeling really good with either of these additives; ESPECIALLY SAA!!!)
I'm happy to read what others do with their bases.

Looking for purabodynaturals murumuru moisture milk base
Hi all,
First, I wanted to say that this is such a great thread. It is greatly appreciated. Second, I would like to ask if anyone could help me find the base of the Purabodynaturals murumuru moisture milk, the ingredients are as follows:
murumuru butter, BTMS (behentrimonium sulfate and cetearyl alcohol), castor bean oil, palm oil, avocado oil, chamomile extract, vitamin E, phenoxyethanol, capryl glycol (paraben and formaldehyde free preservative), fragrance and/or essential oil.
I have tried searching the internet and am having no luck finding it so I do not know if whether or not this particular product has a readilly avaiable base online somewhere. Any help that anyone could give me is very much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance for any & all assistance,
growingitlong
