Never heard of last.fm.

However, my tastes in music are kind of broad and I listen to a lot of stuff. Jazz, r&b (current and old school), hip-hop, house, freestyle and pop are my faves, but I will listen to some alternative and rock as well. The genres I dislike the most are classical and country.

A classical composer? Excellent! Do you have anything online we can hear?
Mozart's my favorite classical composer. I also like Vivaldi and Bach.

You'll find all kinds of other stuff in my collection, too.

I've got a little bit of old stuff like Dean Martin and Rosemary Clooney.
Got some 60s stuff like the Beatles and the Monkees.
Got some 70s stuff like ELO and Fleetwood Mac.
Tons, TONS of 80s stuff. Name it, I've probably got it.
I also have some newer stuff from P!nk, Plain White Ts, Katy Perry, Train, Uncle Kracker, etc.
I've also got some kooky, fun stuff like The Chipmunks "Witch Doctor" (the original), and "The Lonely Goatherd" from the The Sound of Music.
Lately, however, I've been drawn to the happy little tunes you hear in TV commercials, like Little & Ashley, Jess Penner and Ingrid Michaelson. They're just so cute and upbeat!

Yup... as far as downloading stuff into my MP3 player, I Just Can't Get Enough (Depeche Mode).

I updated my OP w/ links re: last.fm. (incl. my page)

Yeah I definitely don't stick to any particular "genres", (except often the commercial stuff is just vacuous.) btw This is fantastic y'all, as I aspire to such eclecticosity

I'm building a playlist right now, maybe I'll put up some of it.

Last.fm keeps track of what you listen to on your computer and ipod, then charts it out. It also gives you recommendations!

Yeah, on my blog. I have it listed in my siggy. I only have one or two songs up right now. I'm planning on doing about three more songs and then I'm thinking about posting them on Bandcamp. I'm still working on the third piece right now.

I <3 Bach. He probably my favorite. Not really familiar with Vivaldi other than the Four Seasons piece. Mozart's pretty awesome too

I have an old record of Rosemary Clooney doing duets with Bing Crosby. It's pretty interesting to listen to sometimes.

Hippy Trippy

Kiss the Sky by Shawn Lee

And my girl Janelle Monae -- more to her than crazy dancing and Tightrope. This song is one of Prince's favs. Say You'll Go

Geez, reading is fundamental. I love vintage jazz from the early 1900s to the Big Band Swing era.

Early R&B, and Soul.

anything from the new jack swing era. mostly r&b artists that would benefit from their own where are they now specials. my brother and i try to outdo each other with discovering (or rediscovering) those artists and groups. i LOVE LOVE LOVE 60's/70's/early 80's soul music. other than that i always seem to be attracted to those obscure black punk bands. i despise modern urban radio (including those pop stations).

I listen mostly to kirtan kundalini yoga music sung in Gurmukhi. Snatam Kaur and Mata Mandir Singh are my favorites.

I also love, love classicsl/acoustic/steel string guitar music. Kaki King and John Fahey are my favorites. (I play the classical guitar)

I also listen to Afro-Brazilian music. Olodum and Monica Salmaso are my favorites. Or anying with a samba reggae beat.

On occasion, I listen to Americana (Appalachian)music, banjo and celtic music. I like the Carolina Chocolate drops.

Pandora is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm always discovering new guitarists.

For fond memories of fine times, Larry Graham and Graham Central Station, Sly Stone and Chaka Khan with a little vintage Prince.

And last but not least. Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana when I feel like rocking out on some slamming guitar music.

Anyone have last.fm?

ETA- My last.fm- last.fm/user/PiNoRo - Stuff I've been listening to, although some isn't on there.
Awesome! I've been listening to indie music since I was 14 (21 now)--I always get super excited when I see people who listen to it. Unfortunately, I lost all of my music--about 42gb--after the black screen of death (damn you to hell, Zune!).

I typically listen to: chillwave, lo-fi, nu gaze, shoegaze, melodic death metal, indietronica, dream pop, ambient, post-rock, dream pop, and downtempo.

Chillwave is a new genre, it's awesome. Anyway favorite bands...:

Toro Y Moi, The Radio Dept., iamamiwhoami, Best Coast, Tribeca, Explosions in the Sky, Crystal Castles, Bat for Lashes, Black Kids, Blonde Redhead, Boy in Static, Insomnium, Annuals, Casker, Misty Blue, Club 8, Earlimart, Did You Know That Robin Is a Rabbit?, Efterklang, Fever Ray, The Knife, FPRF, Frou Frou, GOGO STAR, Gregory & the Hawk, Helios, Lali Puna, Lune, Ms. John Soda, The Octopus Project, Pascal Pinon, Pinkshinyultrablast, Polarkreis 18, Smith Westerns, Soap & Skin, Sogyumo Acacia Band, Grizzly Bear, Telepopmusik, Tunng, etc.

And currently, my favorite song for 2010; it's ambient/post-rock so it's just instrumental. Very relaxing.

The Only Moment We Were Alone

My favorite songs currently:

Misty Blue, it's more like pastel music--very soft and comforting.
Insomnium (Watch out, this is melodic death metal, so beware!)
Crystal Castles - Celestica (one of their more tame songs... most of their songs sound like animals dying so); and another CC song - I Am Made of Chalk. This is the one that sounds like an animal dying, but I think it's so awesome. I love the noise. Don't and I repeat, DON'T listen to it if you don't wanna be creeped out. It isn't for the faint of heart xD
Toro y Moi - chillwave, dude!

And lastly, my favorite band of all time! Loved them since I was 14... The Radio Dept., current favorite song (it's nugaze)

Domestic Scene.

That's it for now, if you like indie music, ask me for some more recommendations! I've been listening to it for such a long time and I have so many bands. I get overly excited when people listen to indie, take care.

There are some artists who I consider icons. They are on constant rotation on my iPod. They include: Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Elton John.

As far as genres go, I like 60/70's soul and motown, cheesy 70's and 80's ballads, 80's pop, 90's R&B, indie, lo-fi, foreign pop.

I also like: TV on the Radio, Lykke Li, Imani Coppolla/Little Jackie, Solange, Alice Smith, Lily Allen, Lenka, The Bird and the Bee, Colby Collait, Janelle Monae, Corinne Bailey Rae, Regina Spektor, Esthero, Alicia Keys.

I listen to RnB and Jazz pretty much more than any other genre but I will listen to pretty much anything if it peaks my interest. I also can listen to Christmas music all year around.

I like to think my music taste is eclectic but the most common genres on my mp3 player are UK Indie Rock, Trip-Hop (well technically a lot of Electronica but Trip-hop is the most common sub-genre), Bossa Nova, SynthPop. I generally enjoy music that is considered 'noise' and my guilty pleasure is K-pop (lol). Some of my favourite artists (some of which are now defunct):

Do Me Bad Things, Thee Michelle Elephant Gun,Bombay Bicycle Club, Quantic (and Quantic Soul Orchestra), RES, Outasight,Chungking,Cody Chestnutt, Dir En Grey, Sneaker Pimps (Kelli Ali era), Emiliana Torrini, Esperanza Spalding... to name a few
