Tangle Teezer Update: Friend or Foe?
Lanisha made mention (in the original Tangle Teezer thread) of Curly Nikki's updated review on the Tangle Teezer. She said it jacked up her ends...splits and all.
Has anyone else noticed it? I don't do "search and destroy" trims. I blow my hair out, to see the condition of the ends, and trim.
I mentioned in the original thread, I was concerned with not seeing this thing correctly. I love how it detangles, and I love how it feels on my scalp. But I don't want split ends. I've never had problems with split ends, before this thing.
Are you concerned?

hmmm
Is the darling detangling dynamo silently shredding & snatchin' us skitchy?
I am being vigilant esp about my dd's hair and mine. So far so good. The boys get haircuts so it's not much of an issue I don't think?
I'd be the first to show breakage but I'm not the best mine canary. I alternate my tool detangling sessions with more finger combing so I've only used the TT twice so far on my entire head.
It seems like everything gives me some amount of breakage but I am paying extra attention. It's a new tool for me and well, you never know. <shrug>
eta: i just cut my hair recently for split, dry ends and that was pre-TT.

That how I feel. Some amount of breakage is inevitable during the washing/conditioning/detangling/styling process--one just has to try to minimize it.

Yes, I agree some breakage is inevitable. But, if all of sudden you see a different kind of breakage, or it's all concentrated at the ends, then that would cause me to pause.
I don't wanna end up with splits all up and down my hair strands.
Also, I was reading the comments: It's interesting that folks jump to the conclusion that so many of us "jumped on a bandwagon", and that Nikki was "honest" with her review. Well, she thought it was "all that" too, in the beginning, didn't she?
I used it a couple of times, loved...but expressed concern that it might be undercover evil. I was hoping to see some updates.

Did she say she was dry detangling with it? Because I saw people doing that, and I did it on one section of my hair, did like, two strokes, and was like hell to the naw!!! I did get breakage with it, but I get a little bit of breakage each time I detangle. I am sure to switch the TT up with my paddle brush though, so I can't say whether it's effing up my hair. I like it better when I'm detangling while doing a style though (like twists/braids) because I'm already working with smaller pieces of hair.

This is so unfair. I hope this isn't true. Once I figured out how to best use it, the TT worked like a dream for me. I started out dry detangling with it, not because I normally dry-detangle, but because I wanted to test its claim. I hated it as a dry detangling tool. I began using it only on wet-conditioned hair or hair saturated with coconut oil. Under shower spray, the TT works marvelously.
Anyway, I noticed breakage, but nothing out of the ordinary. I will look at my ends this weekend.
I think CurlyNikki did a lot of dry detangling with this tool. I haven't gone back in time to re-read her posts, but from what I recall, she dry-detangled with it.

Nope. My hair is doing way better with the TT than a wide-toothed comb. Maybe fine-haired ladies with fragile hair need to watch out, but not I.

I'm not too worried about this thing. I've been examinging my ends after every detangling session and they seem just fine to me. I've been using my TT for about a month or so now, but I only use it on wet hair that is soaked with conditioner. If I start to notice an abnormal amount split ends, then I'll re-consider.

I haven't noticed any split ends or breakage on my daughters hair. I do both wet and dry detangling with it. So far so good...

I've been using the TT about a month & I havent had any problems thus far. I would point out that I have coarse, thick hair & it has been known to take A LOT without breakage or damage.

I hope not. That would be sad. There is a 500+ post thread on LHCF about this thing.. SMH that means all of those ladies might have to deal with splits from using this thing.
I wanted to buy one but I didn't because what I am doing is really working well forme.
I bought an actual Denman brush and itis SO much better than my knock off. I personally don't even understand how some people think the denman is rough, to ME the bristles have SO much give...but every head is different i guess.

I have fine transitioning hair and haven't noticed any adverse effects from using the TT. I think it boils down to technique more so than anything...

I'm still using mine..i don't think it's causing any problems.
I have a bunch of splits i'm dealing with, but that came before the TT entered my life and i don't even use it often enough..
i just recently semi dry detangled with it and my hair is fine.

I've only had my TT for a week, and I haven't noticed anything, but I've used it twice.
Now, Nikki is claiming that her splits are from the TT, but she's also dry detangling with it, as well as protective styling her hair in a bun like its outta style. That being said, when's the last time she really did an ends check? In addition, there are many causes of split ends. Is she still on her PT and DT game? She's also still undergoing the hormonal changes postpartum which could also wreak havoc on the hair.
I wouldn't be so quick to call out the TT's name and follow Nikki up. You know your hair better than Nikki, follow up.

This. Now, I had concerns from the beginning that were expressed in the other thread. But yes, I think folks should know their own hair and not be like, "Uh oh! Curly Nikki said it's a hair destroyer, therefore it is...." For me, it's just a reminder for me to take note of my ends and entire strands. I'm going to pay close attention.
I also never detangle dry. I don't care what the instructions say. Just like I didn't follow the instructions to detangle from the top to the ends.

I was thinking that. She just had a baby, hasn't been taking care of her hair, even admitted to letting it go for weeks without washing or styling. I don't watch youtube videos, but I follow a lot of blogs and have learned that my hair is unique to me. Ithink people that idolize other people (especially if those people put themselves on that pedastool) are weird.

THIS. If your ends aren't in prime condition (i.e freshly trimmed) when you try a new tool, I don't want to hear about things shredding and splitting your ends. LOL.

No breakage or splits but I did notice an elasticity issue
I used the TT for 2 weeks with a wash and go everyday and I noticed quite a bit of straight hair pieces. I.E., elasticity problems and had to do a deep protein treatment. I don't blame the TT completely, I'm very fine haired and don't do well with brushes of any kind, even when I was relaxed.
