Exclamation PROTEIN!!

I've noticed breakage in my hair for a while now, and since I pretty much moisturize every day, I couldn't figure out what the prob was (although I haven't DC'd in a while too).

But last night, a strand broke off that was about 5in long and I actually SAW that it had split at the end. I was like O Hell Naw.. because it was very shiny, and it looked strong..

That's when I realized that I have NEVER done a protein treatment, and need to do one ASAP.

But I find little info on protein, since it seems so many ppl are sensitive. Should I try the egg/mayo thing? Aphogee? I need a HIGH protein product to save my strands. Any recommendations?

I personally have never tried any of those. I love using She Scent It's Tea Tree & Grapefruit Herbal Conditioner. I have found that it strengthens my hair without leaving it really hard and strawy. It has Silk Amin Acids, Wheat Protein, Panthenol, Keratin, and collagen. I use it once or twice a month. The other ones sound really great thou and will probrably strengthen your hair very well. Especially the eggs and mayo which is alot cheaper and readily available.

Thanks Kinky Gal!
I don't see too many ppl here talking about Protein for porous hair.. Maybe i'm just not looking in the right place. Seems like almost everyone on NC is Protein sensitive though..

If you have split ends then you have to cut them not sure you can save them sorry.

As for the protein treatment I would suggest you try the egg mayo and honey, or organic root stimulator hair mayo, if you hair is still weak then maybe add an egg to it.

Here is a good link about protein and natural hair

I don't know anything about the science of haircare or porosity, but know a little bit about the breakage issues I have. I noticed a while ago, some of my strands split in the middle on the last two inches. I know there's nothing I can do to repair splits, so I've been trying to cut it out myself. I think I just need to find a place that can deal with my kinky hair and give me a proper haircut. I hear cutting the splits out helps from it splitting further up the strand.

I read online about splits in the strands and doctors do recommend protein conditioner. I'm using Aubrey Organics GPB (Glycoprotein Balance) regularly. I like Oyin's Honey Hemp too. They both keep my hair soft and moisturized, while doing whatever protein's supposed to do to strengthen hair.

I have tried Aphogee on a few occasions and it does nothing special for how difficult it is to use and how foul the odor is.

Let us know how it goes!

I have a tub of mayo that I only use for my hair, so that's what I use when I'm home. I use Aubrey Organics GPB (or GBP?) if I have extra money or I'm traveling or an egg if I'm away from home without GPB and don't need a whole thing of mayo. The egg is great, but it tends to cook in my hair

I have been doing the egg PT each weekend.. not sure if its helping but i think it is. when i run out of my CURLS i think im gonna try Jessicurls WDT.

I love curl Junkie's Repair Me. It's expensive, but it's the best protein treatment I have every tried. I have also picked up protein treatments at Sally's Beauty Supply. They have various ones that seem to strengthen my hair. I just did a Cassia treatment (its a herbal powder) and that really strengthened my hair. Check out the "experiences with Henna" sticky in the 4a forum if you want to go that route. HTH
