Kinky Curly newbie needs help !

just returned to KCCC after trying it in 2009 on a section of my then mostly scab hair. I had a disaster with the Knot Today which made my hair hard, wiry & uncombable. I had to wash it to get it back to normal.Left the stuff alone after that.Fast forward to 2011. Scab hair all but gone & hair just about back to normal. Now the Knot Today works nicely & no problem detangling. New problem: it didn't work well with the KCCC in my hair. Hair felt weird, crinkly & stripped of oil even tho the curls started to define so I rinsed it out & tried Curls milkshake on one section & it felt better but wanted to frizz.

I cowashed with Nexxus moisturising shampoo & it felt normal. I applied the KCCC & the curls started defining again...various sized pensprings. However texture situation popped up. Look at my photo. The hair in the top front has always been a looser softer texture than the rest ( I consider my hair to be soft fine 4a/b) & is always more "floppy" when soaking wet & hangs lower as it dries.I think there are other such areas in back.

Right now I'm sitting under a ceiling fan to help it dry. There's a lot of shrinkage in some areas but not the front or those other spots. This might be due to my inexperience with KCCC,my hair's textures or both. I'd like to fluff it out & have a nice uniform curly afro. I had a nice big fro in the 70's that always looked like a blowout but only needed to be braided & picked out to get that effect. How do you do this when you have varying textures & you're not supposed to mess with your hair after applying KCCC ? Is the Gloss pomade worth getting for this? Can you use an oil like vatika or some other? Any other products? I know there's a BIG learning curve with KCCC & I've read posts by folks who've taken MONTHS to get it right & some have to use other products with it.Right now my hair is 90% dry but not hard or crunchy. It has that unkempt "birds picked it out" look that's a hot mess.I do think that it will probably look better when it gets longer. It's about 5-6" long. It would've been longer but I kept trimming off the post curly perm
scab hair, which hated many products.

The instructions say to comb the KCKT & KCCC thru your hair with a wide tooth comb. I also tried to detangle with my tangle teezer & I think that thing, even tho I LOVE IT, disrupts my curl pattern & causes frizz . I thought of the curly girl method & how she says NOT to comb your hair for that very reason.

Anyhow,if any of you have any ideas or suggestions from personal experience please let me know.

I'd suggest that you get enough moisture in your hair first. It sounds like you're washing it quite a bit. Try deep conditioning it first. If you're looking for a uniform curl pattern try the tightly curly method or shingling. You can search for them on the site if you don't know what they are. You can also try defining rash section individually to coax your hair into a curl pattern. By this I mean try finger coiling/doodling. Hope that helps

I was in the same boat when i first tried KCCC. Hated it after i BC'd. But like u, once i grew my hair out some, and got it healthy, KCCC has become one of my staples. First, again, u got to get the moisture levels up in your hair and u wont accomplish that by washing too much. Try co-washing unless your hair really needs to be clarified. Also, i didn't comb my hair often at all until it grew to long to finger comb because that will definitely jack up your curls. So if your hair isn't almost shoulder length, u shouldn't have to detangle but every couple months.

The thing with KCCC is that ur hair also has to be the right wetness between damp and dripping wet depending on your hair texture. I'm a 4a and my hair has to be real wet but not dripping. you have to work it in by shingling small sections at a time making sure not to use to much or too little KCCC. I would never comb it through. After thats done, I let it completely air dry and then diffuse to lengthen it. I just grab sections and pull down while moving the blow dryer up and down the hair but not touching it. KCCC causes major shrinkage.

I also use the not today as a leave in nude the KCCC. my experience has been that hardly any products except those in the KC line can be used in combination with KCCC. Anything with oil is deadly!

Hope this helps!!!
