Default Summer hats for big haired curlies?

I have huge hair (pictured below) and I love it EXCEPT when it's time to go and try on a hat to avoid using those chemical-laden sunscreens.

1st day hair:

2nd day hair:

What hats have you guys found that actually fit on top of the "afro" and provide sun protection (with a minimum 2" brim) or should I just wear another hairstyle besides my wash and go? If so which hairstyles.

I love the following hat styles below...but they don't fit! HELP!

I'd just rock a silk bandana under the hat.

A silk scarf of bandana can do a world of wonders for a lot of "big hair" problems. Good luck!

And your hair is glorious btw!

I sometimes rock a low bun or puff under my hats. Flat twist work too.

I still use an SPF though. I got burned but good last year despite wearing a hat, being brown and living up north.

I choose not to put on the SPF and rather wear protective clothing instead. The cancer risks using SPF, what it does to our environment, and the animals is just too much.

Plus what you eat can also help fight and reverse any sun damage.

Trust me, I tried every alternative in the world and it didn't work. Out of all the bath and body products I use, SPF is the only "poisonous" thing that's on my shelf. The damage isn't worth it - for me. I've gotten burns on my hands while driving. What am I susposed to do, wear gloves when its 90 degrees out?

I have a huge head, even with a TWA...and with my hair, forget about anything in the accessories area of a women's clothing store.

..Men's hats have been good to me, i'm sure a good hat shop would have similar styles to your pix. Only downside is that they're usually more expensive but it's worth it to not have my brain crushed.

a silk scarf is always a good idea.. compresses & protects the hair while keeping the hats clean if you have product in.

re: sunscreens

Purple Prairie's Sun Stuff is good and not chemical-y

ItsNaturallyPure: Safe, Natural and Organic SunScreen

the only thing is that i have to rub it in well to not look crazy(ier).

Wow, that's cool. I totally respect that, but I load on that SPF rull quick. Lol. I wear it (especially on my face) religiously. That's awesome though that you have other methods that don't involve chemicals that offer protection. May have to try it

Everyone's hair is so cute it makes me want to cry. Lol.

Fedoras are awesome. Unfortunately my hair has now hit its "NO" stage, where it no longer permits hats to stay on my head any more than five seconds before it's flying off. My hair's so big that I can't wear the hat at a sandwich shop i work at so they had to special order me a bandana.

Could you put your hair in a puff or a similar style that would keep it down so you can put a hat on it? I don't have any hats that would fit on my hair while in a dried WnG - no way no how, but in a low bun/puff, etc, it could work.

Monaco Wide Brim Hat

I'm not so much into the fedoras, but this I would rock. I love a big floppy hat.
