Smile Protective Styling?

I was just wondering how many of you practice protective styling all year long. I mean like everyday. I love protective styling and believe it does help to maintain hair length BUT I like don't like to limit my styles. I like to enjoy my hair in different styles and don't believe in limiting it unless I choose to. During the winter I do kinky twist and during the summer I try to keep my hair braided and twisted with my ends tucked in or updos with ends tucked in but during the spring and fall I wear varius styles. That's just my personal thing. I don't like to stress over my ends being tucked in, it's not mandatory, being natural is hard enough. Protective styling has it's benefits but (to me)it's not mandatory all year long unless you believe it's the only way to achieve your length goal. I believe everyone should follow their own rules, if any, when it comes to their hair and body. So How often do you choose to wear protective styles and why?

that's a good question, i've been trying to work on wearing more protective styling.

I too love to change my hairstyle often. i know it's not the best thing for my hair to have my hands in it everyday. I wish i was one of those girls who wouldn't touch her hair so much, like my little sisters.
I can't keep braids or kinky twists for over a week. I don't like wearing weave because it makes my scalp itch. I wear afro puffs, a bun, or a scarf when i do choose to wear protective styling which is only on those days i am too lazy to do anything to it.
The last time i had braids i kept them 3 weeks, and my hair grew so much. So this summer i plan to alternate weeks...wear twist and curl one week, then protective styling the next. I'll see at the end of the summer if it works for me.
Everyday i am on the internet looking up stuff for my hair, and i've noticed the girls who rarely touch their hair, and wear the protective styles for weeks at a time, seem to be the girls with the hair to their waist.
Sorry if i may have gotten off subject in this post.

Twists are my favourite style! I normally keep my hair in flat twists at the front and two strand twists at the back. I do a lot of different things with the twists - braid outs, flat twists outs, roller sets. Or sometimes I wear them stretched with curly ends.

Twists are really convenient for me because I wear a headscarf on a day to day basis (for religious/spiritual reasons).

I first started wearing the headscarf approx 2 years ago. Prior to that I would wear my hair in a wider variety of styles: a puff, a combed out fro, braid outs, twist outs, roller sets etc.

When I want to grow my hair out after a cut I put it in braids. My hair seems to retain more length with braids and I have never noticed any split ends when wearing my hair in braids.

Yeah me too, when my hair is in braids or twist I have less fairy knots and a lot less breakage. So I believe protective styling is the key but I believe in enjoying it sometimes too. Thanks for replying!

I agree that it's good to enjoy your hair. Doing hair is my hobby and I enjoy experimenting with different styles.

By the way, I absolutley LOVE the way that you hair is styled in your avatar pic

I do protective styles about 2/3 of the time, but I don't think I could do it everyday. I think it's partially because I'm style-challenged and can't do things like cornrows. If I could do more hairstyles, I would probably wear my hair in PS most of the time.
