Tips for my TWA's awkward adolecence

Hey Girls,

So, I've been relaxer free for a year now (as of last week, whoot whoot!), and I BC'd in March. My hair was cute short. Well, now it's grown out some and it's not looking as good. It's having its braces and acne moment I think. I'm not sure if this stage is inevitable, or if there's some way to make it look better. I BC'd myself, and never had it shaped up. It's about 5-6 inches stretched now, a little mullet-esque and kind of bushy on the sides.

I know what the obvious answer is, just get it cut! But in the end, my goal is growing it out, so I'm hesitant to lose length, and I always seem to lose more than I bargained for when I go in for a haircut.

Has anyone else experienced this awkward growing out stage, and what did you do to cope with it?

HEY!!! Congrats on 1yr! I hit my one year tomorrow .... honestly I have just been pushing through this stage. My hair now flops at the top so I don't get the volume that I would like there but I diffuse to give me a little more height on 1st hair so that it wont look so pulled down.

I threw away my scissors so that I wont be tempted to cut again. But right now I've finally fallen into a pattern with my hair and am really hitting a stride with it. If u don't want to get it cut you can always do things to make it shorter(coiling) or longer(stretched styles)

Congrats on your one year.

Yea, like lola, I pretty much just push through whatever pisses me off about my hair because ultimately I'm going for length. You can put it back with a headband if it bothers you, or could get it put in kinky twists if you want to leave it alone for a little bit. When my length bothered me I pretty much would twist it up and slap a wig on it for a few days.

My hair is at this stage too. I BC'd in Feb. I usually try to stretch it by doing 2-strand twists (which is rarely because I have to do so many because the hair is still short). Most of time, I do a wash and go with no gel or throw a headband on, pull some hair to the front (to get a kinda fro-hawk kinda thing going on) and call it a day. Or do the same thing and put on a beanie/tam.

Also, I did the wig thing too, but my wigs are long so when it started to get hot, I had to dump them lol

Thanks for all the tips! I think I'm going to try banding todays wash and go tonight. Everything but the back. I tried a braid out all over and it was mullet city.

I've been thinking about getting a wig. It's a little foreign to me though because I've never worn one before. I bought some hair to do a crochet weave, but I know I'm going to miss playing in my hair, so I keep putting off doing it.

Patience is a virtue right? Thanks for the encouragement ladies! Good to counteract my husband always saying "your hair's too long, you should cut it short again". Keepin' my eyes on the goal!
