Help I wanna straighten!

Its been a year next month since my big chop and I want to straighten my hair for a length check. I'm really nervous about causing damage to my hair, does anyone have any tips on techniques or products I should be using?

Okay I am no expert but I have been getting the hang of this lately. Firstly it is important to know that the products you use on your hair for straightening is not the same you use for when it's curly.
What I do is pre-poo with an oil and twist it up for a few hours or overnight. Then I clarify first with shampoo to make sure all buildup is removed. Afterward I detangle with conditioner, wash SOME of the conditioner out not all but don't leave too much in because your hair will be limp not bouncy. Then add heat protectant while wet (not too much though) and leave hair to air dry a bit. After that just blow dry with a comb attachment and proceed to flat iron in sections. Voila hope that helps!
Texture: proud 4a (3c at the nape).
Regimen: co-wash everyday.deep condition, de-tangle and seal once a week.
Current Favs: Treseme Naturals shampoo & conditioner, wide tooth comb, coconut oil, Shea Moisture curling smoothie, ampro clear styling gel .
Protective Style: buns
