*sigh* I tried to start the curly girl method this week and apparently I had it all wrong. I used a shampoo/conditioner with sulfates and cones in it to clarify my hair. I've since learned I need to start by clarifying my hair with a shampoo that has sulfates but no cones. What do you guys use to clarify cleanse your hair? preferably cheap drugs store brands.

Also, what heat cone free heat protectants are you all using for diffusing?

And, once I begin no-pooing I'm supposed to first cleans with a cone & sulfate free conditioner then condition with a heavier cone & sulfate free conditioner right????

It's okay, it's easy. When ever I do clarify I use Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo. 7.99 a bottle at CVS but lasts forever.

I don't use heat protectants because I don't use heat on my hair but for diffusing I wouldn't think you'd need one if you plan to diffuse on low. I will let someone else chime in on that one.

I alternate between low poo and cowashing but yes you do have the process right with cowashing. Cowash first with a light cone free condish and then follow with your heavier cone free condish. Hope this helps

You can still use shampoo on the CG method. There are natural shampoos out there without sulfates. Try shea moisture. When you use cones, you have to use sulfates to get them out. To clarify, I use bentonite clay or apple cider vinegar. I shampoo with poo bars or my Deity Plant poo.

I'm not sure of any cone free heat protectants but the ones with cones will probably protect your hair better. I don't use heat at all, but I didn't think you needed heat protectant when diffussing.

The bottom line is to do what your hair needs. Strictly CG doesn't work for me because my scalp can't take cowashing. I don't use silicones at all though so to some degree I'm still CG. My hair hates cones anyway. Do some research on the site or even google. You'll find lots of stuff.

Hey CocoT speaks the truth but I also wanted to clarify that when I said I lowpoo is because like CocoT I couldn't follow a strictly cowashing regimen so I alternate. My shampoos are sulfate free but do have a cleanser in it (cocobentaine). I know spelled it wrong. the CocoB is normally further down the list so the shampoo is very gentle. One's I have used are Trader Joes Nourish Spa, Giovanni 50:50 balanced and mizani true textures.

In addition, Cocobentaine can remove cones (at last that's what an article on here said) but your it will take more washes than simply using a sulfate shampoo. Hope this helps

My youngest daughter is a natural that flat irons regularly. She uses Pantene Heat Protection & Shine. It is cone free and she swears by it. She doesn't use heat above 400 degrees and has no heat damage.

First I'm going to say that I'm not CG at all. Me and 'cones have always been fast friends. But as far as heat protectants go I don't really think a 'cone free one is entirely necessary. Ultimately, heat is worse for your hair than silicone. So if you're going to flat iron don't sweat using a 'cone. NBD.

And I don't think you need a heat protectant if you're only diffusing, A leave-in would probably suffice
