Question Using Darcy's Botanicals

I bought the Madasgascar Vanilla styling cream and the Avacado and Wild Plum twisting creme this weekend and decided to give it a shot tonight on a wash and go. I washed and deep conditioned my hair and used the KCKT as a leave in. While it was still wet I used my hands and fingers and worked a little of the MV and twisting cream in my hair. I may have used about a half a teaspoon or so of each since most of the complaints for DB has been the greasy feeling when you use too much. My hair is still short and the directions said that a little goes a long way. I bought the products for a soft hold, less frizz, and possible more defined and elongated curls.

I got softer hold than I ever did with a gel but I still had quite a bit of frizz especially on my 4a curls. I actually have more shrinkage with this than I do with a gel but the drying time is cut in half. Definition is okay but the frizz makes it hard to determine. My hair is soft,which I love but I'm not sure if I'm applying too little or if I'm using the wrong products for my purposes.

Are there any DB fans and faithful users with some advice on this?

I only used the Madasgascar Vanilla styling cream in the winter when the weather was dry and cold. Its too heavy for me to use 365. I only used it to seal my ends while bunnig or rolling it and on my edges for hold. I found it hard to use it any other way.

@greenandchic
I was looking for something heavier like a butter for my hair. I don't have a problem with that aspect of my hair since my hair seems to like it

I'm just not sure if the products I have are good for wash and go's. I didn't buy the jelly because it looks like KCCC and that does nothing but make my curls hard and I didn't want to spend $12 on a product I couldn't use at all.

I'm not a DB fan but I'm a daily wash and goer. I'm also searching for the perfect cream or butter for soft and frizz free definition. Jane Carter Curl defining cream comes close but after a couple of days my hair feels weird. Also, the only gel that hasn't crunched up my 3c/4a hair is Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Gel. HTH!

I love butters too, but I find the DBMVSC to be too heavy for WnGs. It could be simply because of the length of my hair. I found it to work better for me for twist outs to seal the ends.

Its hard to find a butter for WnG. I'm still looking for one. I've been interested in trying Jane Carter lock and Twist since it is creamy, but haven't wanted to make the investment as of late..

Have you tried mixing the cream with gel to make a custard/pudding?

I did that with Long Aid gel...

I did a new wash and go and I found that I needed a lot more of the twist cream than they would recommend. I also had to add glycerin to the mix since it's the non-glycerin version. I love the soft hold but I still have frizz. I'll chock it up to the humid weather in the Bahamas. But so far I'm loving it.

@JessicazFro

That sounds doable! The DB avocado and plum twist cream and the MV together the 2nd time seems to work best when I add a little more on my hair. I wanted a softer hold to gel but with the same definition and frizz fighting. I just don't want to buy another pudding or custard because KCCC just made a mess of my hair. The drying time is ridiculous and if I use a little it doesn't hold curls and I end up a frizz ball, and if I use a little more I end up with hard curls. I just didn't like the formula on my hair.

But try to take my KCKT from me and we'll have a problem

I have used both of the DB products for braidouts vs. WnGs.

The secret for me to using the KCCC or the DB Coiling Jelly is to use a heavier leave in underneath. I've had success using the following under the gels:

DB Peach Kernel Hydrating Milk
KBN Shea Aloe Leave In
Oyin Hair Dew

With a a heavier leave in, I get the hold and less crunch.

If you want to switch to a creamier styler, I've had luck with the following

Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Moisturizer (when my hair was shorter)
Jane Carter Curl Defining Cream
Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Jamaican Lime & Mango Transitioning Coiling Creme Pudding
My HoneyChild Type 3 Creme topped with Komaza Care Coconut Pudding
Komaza Califia Pudding

Wow I've had the same problem with kccc. I wanted to like the knot today but it wasn't moisturizing enough.

I'm looking at the Komaza Califia Pudding and Jane Carter for my next buy. I also heard good things from the Bee Mine collection.

I'm going to have to buy a lot of new products after I come from Paris. Being on NC so frequently has activated my PJ mechanism
