Hair Product Addiction

Help!! I am addicted to buying hair care products!!

I am fairly new to the site and after reading all the threads and comments I've decided to switch to natural products like jojoba oil, coconut oil, rosemary etc. My only problem is that I get carried away and I want to try them all... At once. I know this is bad because it really does give me a chance to see how each product affects my hair, whether negatively or positively.

I spent almost $30 on hair care products last week and I am about to spend another $60 today buying some more online. It must be that I am so excited to grow out a healthy head of natural hair & to get rid of this relaxer but this is really putting a dent in my pocket.

Does anyone else have this problem? Or it it just me? I don't want to risk being broke because I can't control my hair care spending.

You're not alone. I did the same thing once I joined hair boards and started watching youtube videos. It eventually died down for me. I still love getting packages though.

Ahhh, welcome to the sweet and sometimes cruel world of the product junkie! Come. Come into our arms as we hug you and share your pain and slowly and sneakily slip your credit card out of your back pocket because ours are maxed out and there's a new conditioner out that claims to heal every hair problem in existence and we need it... :evil4:

My first 2-3 years were not pretty. But it gets better. I've found product I love and I repurchase them, and life is good!

It has happen to the best of us. It died down for me. I found something that worked in I stick with it. I may buy a new product every once in awhile, but it would be every blue moon or when I run low on the product I have. You can build a regimen of the products you love. Try to stick with them as much as you can. Find what works for you.

I'm self treating for product addiction. Resisting the July 4th sales so I can use up the mountain of stuff I have already. Smh

I don't know if it ever goes away for everyone. For me after almost 9 years, I realized it comes and goes. Sometimes, I don't care and just stick to the basics, and some years I go crazier with experimentation, etc.

I did learn more about what ingredients and combos my hair likes and dislikes. That eliminates a lot of frivolous buying. I have a shelf in a bathroom cabinet that I try not to go over (that doesn't include my shower shelf with shampoos, conditioners, etc) I do have some products in a small chest that I will use when I run out of what's on my shelf, but I try not to buy more than what I can fit in those areas. Oils and butters are different because I use them on my skin too.

I have a lot of hair and its very porous so I go though product quickly (especially conditioners) so I don't worry about what I have too much because it will be gone soon anyway.

if only it were just you! lol I spent over $2,000 last year alone on products. :puker:
a good rule of thumb to remember is that no product is going to grow your hair out, they can only maintain it. But, damn, if it ain't fun to try new stuff! :brushteeth:
