The way I started was by first figuring out my hair type (look right above, there's a section to help you do that). Then I went into that forum and jumped in. I got products recommended by others that I was interested in. YouTube helps a lot, if you want to see a review about a product you're thinking of. Otherwise it's a lot of trial and error. For wash-n-go's, my first trial was Kinky Curly products. Their Knot Today and Curling Custard. It's actually still my fav after trying many other combo's. Good luck! Jump in, don't be scurred, it's fun, we don't bite

For money that is well spent and the less than the cost of some products, I would get a hair analysis done, see link below. The analysis will tell you your hair's texture, porosity and elasticity and also come with recommendations on which products to use and which to avoid. The curl "type" is really secondary, since you may have the same curl type as someone else but their hair may require protein but your hair may not and you could end up with hair that is hard, dry and frizzy. Since I have understood the basic structure of my hair, my life is so much simpler and my hair is very healthy.
