Hair that grows UP and OUT

. Ok, I'll be 1 year natural on Sunday. My hair is growing up and out, and hasn't started to "fall" towards my face or fall in a downwards shape (if that makes sense). Now, when I blow dry my hair out, boy it's it 3X longer than what it is if I wash it and twist it, & I definitely hangs low. Is this a charateristic of tighter curled, thicker, kinkier hair? I'm somewhere around 4a/4b and my hair can take many different forms. Id just really like for it to grown downwards towards my face and neck instead of up and out, Without blow-drying. Anyone dealing with the same thing? Any suggestions?
I don't have any suggestions. My hair is starting to grow downward but its longest layer is approaching APL. It's starting to hang downward due to gravity. It taking longer for me to shape my fros and to get them to hang up and out. You'll need time and more length before your hair will start to grow down.

The majority of my hair is made up of cottony coils but the hair at the back of my hair is more silky and it has a larger s shaped curl pattern. Those curls grow down and hang low.

I'm mostly 3c and I have major shrinkage so it may be a curly hair thing. I'm on my 16 month natural and my hair is still growing up but I don't care because it's healthy, growing and retaining length.

Your hair may never grow down and if it does it may not be for a while. Curlies who are BSL have shrinkage up to SL so this just may be something that you have to accept. Stretching your hair may be the best way to not cause damage to your hair but only you know what your aim for your natural hair is.

HTH.

I'm not obsessed: I just LOVE my hair!!

I have the opposite problem...I want my curls to stand out more to give it full body. When I wear a wash n go the sides look great but the back looks sad and, believe it or not, flat. Nothing worse than a flat wash n go! I need a better cut .
Never relaxed

One thing I do (I have mostly 4a, a little 3c in there) is pineapple at night, especially if I'm on second day hair. This helps it hang down and show its length more. For this reason, I usually wash my hair at night. Also, a lot of this is about technique. When I go to the salon, my stylist is able to style my hair in a way that makes my hair hang like its been stretched overnight. Unfortunately, I can never remember how to do that lol. But I would definitely play around with it. I used to pineapple it and then criss cross the ponies and pin them over each other. Now, my hair would look like a long, thin mullet if I did that. Just saying, experiment! Try different stretching techniques! Good luck!
I'll be 1 year natural in December my hair does not hang unless I manipulate it to do so. Flat-twist outs have been great for me. Just flat-twist them how you want your hair to lay.
I also do cornrows but they take too long to do.

I think that's just how afro textured hair grows. It grows up while our counterparts grow down. Lol

I love it, tho.

You should try to use products that weight the hair down like shea butter, heavy creams on stretch hair.

How long is your hair stretched? My hair is APL stretched. I've been natural for 6 months and I transitioned for 22 months. My hair is Type 4A-C, and it doesn't grow up. But, it definitely grows outward though and shrinks ALOT. It's pretty weird.
