Is using one product possible?
So I have really cut down a lot of things in my life, to much less than 100 things. The only thing that I've had a problem with is these darn hair tools, accessories, and PRODUCTS!!!!
I fantasize about the day I can simply use one product! My goal is to try just using coconut oil to detangle, condition, and style my hair. Has anyone tried this? Any tips? Do you guys think it's possible? I'm concerned most about the detangling.
FYI: I really only use one conditioner (for detangling and moisture) and coconut oil ("styler") for my braidouts and twistouts, which are my current weekly styles. They give me MEAN big hair!!! I occasionally do wash-n-gos with KCCC which are great, just my hair loves to tangle, so...sigh! I understand wash-n-gos are darn near impossible w/o oil, but the other two are fine!

No it is not impossible. For my girls I use a detangling 2 n 1 shampoo and conditioner and oil and water to style their hair. For my self I have about five products that I use. The KISS method has been the best method for me.

These are my products
I definitely think you can minimize how much product you use. Although I have several different bottles, it's basically the same type of products, conditioners and oils. The only product that's missing in this pic is my Creme of Nature shampoo.

I'm sure you could do it. I use cococnut oil to detangle/pre-poo. I imagine that after shampooing I could use coconut oil to style. It's not for me but I think it's doable.

If I had locs I could use conditioner and get by on it and it alone.
It would serve as a cleanser, and moisturizer. When my hair is braided in mini braids thats all I use and it works but for my loose hair, nah I would at least need three.
Conditioner an oil, and a moisturizer

Depends on your porosity I guess.
For me, I don't think it's possible to use only one thing (and if that thing is an oil). Oil will not moisturize my hair. It may help in detangling (doubtful for me), but it may not really offer substantive conditioning, I can't condition with an oil only--if I was to pick only one product to use, I would pick conditioner over an oil as you can use conditoner to cleanse, condition, detangle, moisturize and style, but you would still need a sealant (at least for me anyway) so I would need oil.
I'm with Shawny, at least a conditoner and oil, but since I don't co-wash, I will need a shampoo as well.
I use 4 products and that's it. KISS
ETA: and I only buy one of those 4 products...for now

(Thinking out out)
* My hair is only detangable (I know that's not a word, LOL) when I mix a little oil with conditioners or if the conditioner has a lot of slip.
* My hair is porous and requires constant moisturizing and sealing. I could use water to moisturize and an oil to seal. If I had to only use one, it would probably be jojoba oil, but that's only adequate in the summer. I would need something more for the winter. Coconut oil solo generally doesn't work for me. It would probably be olive oil - maybe.
* I work out several days a week and sweat a lot, I don't think oil only would do it for me. I need to wash! I could probably use one conditioner, but the sealing step would be missed and it something my hair needs.
Like BekkaPoo mentioned, you can do with the 4-5 products (maybe less), but I don't think one product could cover all your needs.
If I had to choose a *few* products, it would be:
1. a heavy conditioner that I can double as a leave in, an
2. oil
3. aloe vera gel.
I have a lot of kitchen items I could use such as flax seeds, eggs, yogurt, kitchen oils such as hemp, coconut, olive, grape seed, etc.
That would leave out treatments my hair needs to keep from breaking (henna and other ayurvedic herbs...

It's definately possible to use one product. When I first came to this website, I'd been styling my hair with just gel only and moisturizing with MJ Baby Buttercream....that's it....no leave-ins and never did a DT just a rinse/out to detangle with...my was long and healthly...still is but softer now and more porous because of a set back when I tried some RC color. My avi photo (in the pink robe) shows my hair when I first signed in.

I have attempted using coconut oil as my leavein and styler it was good but not great because of my high porosity hair, I had to spritz with water and seal with coconut oil twice a day ..... The result for me was long term dryness .
I know you can if it agrees with your hair but how unlikely is that ?

I only buy two hair products, conditioner/deep conditioner. I use conditioner to cowash and as a detangler/leave in/moisturiser and seal with evoo.

My hair is highly porous, so there's no way I could get by on just one product. I'd need at least two products minimum to ensure my hair is properly moisturized-a conditioner and an oil or butter.

these are all interesting points. i think this is just something i will have to try.
really, i'm only trying to avoid buying conditioner. i only purchase it to detangle, not the moisture. i think if i keep my hair submerged in water in the actual tub, not under a stream of water, but submerged and detangle under the water i will be able to detangle after pre-pooing.
coconut oil and olive oil are the only oils scientifically proven to moisturize. water is the only other thing, so this should be interesting.

Sounds like a lot of work. And trust me, I tried the oil-to-moisturize thing and it didn't work out in the long run. Cant hurt to try it though.
