I find that what ever moisturizer I use (shea moisture, Hair Dew, Peach kernel Hair milk, shea moisture curl + style milk, Alba Leave in condish, - the list goes on) it works best for my hair if I scrunch it in, put on a cap, and let the steam from the shower do it's thing. When I get out of the shower, I remove the cap and use about 6-10 drops of oil (sweet almond, jojoba, Hairveda vegital soya(?), in the winter castor) and scrunch that in to help seal the moisture in my hair. In the morning, I shake and go out the door. At night, I go to bed. I find that this moisturizing routine keeps my hair soft. If your hair does not like oil, find a good LI or creamy buttery LI to seal with. And don't forget to moisturize with water....HTH

One of the things I realized about my hair is that it wasn't that I couldn't find a good moisturizer, it was that I never sealed the moisture into my hair. Sealing is something that I just started doing and it is making a world of difference in my hair.

How does the steam affect the hair when you're wearing a cap?

I use it on damp hair. First the Shea moisture, then my mix of S Curl/jojoba/castor/evoo oil, just a little and then eco styler aragon oil! It's been my summer routine. I bought it in Walgreen's as a trial and I have been in love ever since!

AG Hair Cosmetics Fast Food Leave-In Conditioner + Coconut oil as a sealant have really helped my hair in the last month that I've been using it. My hair feels really soft and moisturized. Ulta was having a sale this past weekend on the liter sizes - $11.99 for a liter. This is the second sale that I've seen in the month that I've been using it. So they may have another liter sale in a few weeks. - HTH

Is there something to seal with besides oils? I have low porosity hair, and I try sealing but it just leaves my hair a hot greasy, dried out mess. Should I try butters? What are some good ones? I have heard good things about mango butter.

What are you sealing with? I used to seal with coconut oil or items that list coconut oil in the top 5 of the ingredients and my hair would feel very dry.
Mango butter is good but there are so many different butter its really just trial and error.
The main thing is know what's in the product because. to seal you don't want water as the main ingredient.

I have tried sealing with coconut oil, jojoba oil, Castor oil, avocado oil and olive oil. Individually and with a couple mixed together.

same here, my hair is so porous (doesn't help that i dyed it) doesn't matter what I use if I don't seal it im not getting moisture past day 1.
I recently switched from sealing with an oil to butters and its even made a world of a difference. Granted a good leave in does help.. but my sealant is just as important.

So do you cowash or shampoo?
Moisture for me starts with a prepoo, then light shampoo depending on my buildup. After that I add my leave in, in sections and wait for my hair to dry a bit, then I add my moisturizer and sealer.
The burdock root has a tad bit of protein so I only use on already moisturized hair (2,3,4th day refresher) the curl enhancing smoothie is more of a styler for myself and even though it has water as the first ingredient everything else is a butter, doesn't moisturize, my hair but it does style it well.
When are you adding your moisturizer? Wet, damp hair? Do you use a leave in?
Yeahhhhhboi, Im on my smartphone!!!

I never thought about a pre poo. I co-wash with tresemme naturals or low poo (sm moisture retention or giovanni smooth as silk) I clarified with giovanni 50/50. I tried moisturizing on wet hair, don't like it. So usually damp hair. No I don't use a leave in because I haven't found one suitable. I used to use kckt but it doesn't give me any moisture.

I was formerly about Giovanni 50/50 hydrating-calming conditioner (Yes, it works, but read on) after trying TiGi Curls Rock (Nope), Organix Coconut Oil/milk shampoo and conditioner (nope again), JASON vitamin E oil (Nope, nope, nope), Giovanni Smooth As Silk (HELL no), washing my hair with black soap (Nope. hair practically started coughing)
Now it's all about EVOO, Aussie Moist (combing/leave in) and Cantu Shea butter. I think I have found what I need in these products. I shampoo once a month with Avalon's peppermint shampoo to get rid of any buildup. I do still recommend the Giovanni 50/50 as a leave in, but Aussie Moist trumped it. My hair hasn't been thirsty in weeks. I do use coconut oil, still. I just alternate with the EVOO and leave the Organix alone. I do use the conditioner to detangle, though.
