They responded really quick. The shelf life is 6-12 months.

I only used it once and it wasn't a lot. I keep it in the back closet with my other products.

They are replacing it which is nice.

ETA I'm over here checking all my little line products now though

I don't understand why they don't offer smaller sizes if the shelf life is only 6-12 months AND their instructions say, "use a small amount."

This has left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't use up ANYthing (except tresemme) in 6 to 12 months and I'm running out of space in my fridge to be dealing with this type of ish. Dang.

This...I bought a big jar, and there's no way I'm going to use it up, in 6-12 months, even if I never used any of my other styling/moisturizing products. It's just not going to happen.

That stuff needs to last at least a year.

Even if it doesn't last a year, they need to 1) inform people up front. I didn't see shelf life 6-12 months on their website 2) offer smaller jars and 3) upgrade to a good long lasting preservative.

Glad I didn't buy any now. I actually put a lot of my products back in the fridge after letting them hangout on the counter for the last few weeks. Can't be dipping my hand in mold.

I will never put a product in a fridge unless it is aloe Vera gel that is too much. So lemme cross that vender off my list.

I am officially worried now. I bought two of the 8 oz. because I knew I would not finish the 16 oz. in record time...but now I am wondering if that move was all in vain... And I hate having to store product in the frig...doesn't that also encourage mold due to the constant temperature changes? I was raised never to put thawed meat back in the freezer...weird analogy, but it is what comes to mind...

ETA: And doesn't mold show itself after it has already spread in the product...so it is there even before it becomes visible?

I purchased my item in February, not at the world show so maybe mine was in a bad batch.

I don't know but I do know I only used it once and it was less than 3ozs of product.

I hate to alarm everyone but it was a ton of mold for a one time use.

Again, out of the lurk...

Buying the two separate 8 oz was a good idea because as long as the product is sealed, it should remain fresh. The shelf life starts once it's been opened for the majority of hair products and some foods. The date you get on foods (unless it's milk, eggs, meat, or some other highly perishable item) usually assumes that the product is to be opened at some point in the near future.

And yes, mold shows itself after being present in a product for a while... but mold is in the air you breathe everyday, as well as on much of the food you eat. As a matter of fact, air is the main vehicle mold spores use to get into your hair products.

She does need to beef up her preservative system, 6-12 months is actually pretty legit. Ask her if she can sell you one of the 4oz sizes she was selling at the hair show. Mine are packaged like that, and I'm not afraid of them spoiling at all.

Cocodej I thought about that too with the temp variations so my solution is to use a clean serialized spoon and scoop about 3-4 oz out into a clean jar and keep the smaller size at room temp and keep the big jar in the fridge. That way I'm not constantly taking it in and out of the fridge and introducing it to bacteria and air each time I open it for use.

@cocodej that's how I get all the good info! I'm just sad I missed B.A.S.K. at the hair show

But yeah, y'all have pretty much completely shaped my product selection for the last two years.

This is perfect. I will do this. I think a dilution of 5% bleach in water would be enough to sterilize; I recall reading it somewhere when I was soap making. I am gonna try this process and see how my stash holds up. Testing Coco Curls this weekend! Thanks lady!
