Been doing it all WRONG!!

Soooo I had locs for 5 years (went straight from relaxed hair to locs for twists) Sept 09 cut and combed them just because one day( took a couple of weeks). Rocked sew-ins, blow -outs, presses, got a relaxer at a weak moment in mid -summer. I cut it bald 3 weeks later (I HATED the flat lifeless feel as SOON as they washed it out.) Sept 10
So although I have natural time under my belt I have never truly taken care of my natural hair. I had been wearing the low cut and got bored of it. (Hence all the changes)

Now I want to grow it back, no particular goal other than more style options. I will never relax again and want to do it right this time. I've been growing it from a fade for about 5 months and have about 3 1/2 inches.
I've been trying to figure where to start. And kinda overwhelmed with information. I just want a curly healthy fro that I can twist and pull back with a headband.

I need the basics.... washing/conditioning, and mostly moisturizing. I'm sure I need a trim. But its dry brittle and never has any luster... if someone could just give a newbie shopping list I'd be forever grateful.

I'd like to use olive oil, and I only really condition in the shower. But that's every time I shower...I use Herbal Essence now (on a budget) and massage grease when I get out. Please help me get on the right path!!! Sorry so long thx in advance.

Well as far as a product list, products are always trail and error. The productsbI'm using are suave rosemary mint shampoo/condish, elasta qp shampoo/condish, african pride herbal leave in, elasta qp mango butter/olive oil moisturizer, and hollywood beauty deep treament conditioner.
Im not sure if you want to used all natural/organic products, but the ones I use do contain cones/sulfates/parabens. I was using Shea Moisture products but I feel that they have changed the quality of the products so I haven't used their products lately. I do have their purification mask, its nice, also their deep treatment masque is good too. I don't really care for their curly hair line, it didn't really make a difference with my hair. Also make sure you keep your hair moisturized daily, I like to use natural oils. Well good luck, hope this has helped

I wash about twice a week (once while still in twists and the second time out but washed in sections). I get moisture from the steam of my daily shower and just put a light amount of oil on my damp hair. Olive oil breaks me out so I use sunflower or grapeseed oil.

Products are trial and error but on a budget I like Tresseme moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I don't use gels or have a leave in. I do leave just a little of the regular conditional in my hair after washes.

I see good luck and don't mess with your air too much. I find simplicity is always best and protective styles are your friend.

I am a shea moisture product junkie. My hair is thick, and always dry. I use the raw shea moisture retention shampoo weekly, I use the restorative condish daily or every other day. I use the hair milk & smoothie as a leave in/daily moisturizer. I greenhouse my hair overnight and deep condition overnight weekly before shampoo day. I am living by flat twists and flat twist outs to elongate and dry my hair. Bantu knots are cool too but I have two take them down after 10 hrs for the right length.

I saw the whole locs deal and was like "Did I post this?" LoL!

Anyway, I'm a newly freed too (locked almost 6 years.) and I feel like a newbie too. Plus I'm on a DEEP budget as well.

Right now I'm using:

Shampoo- Dove Daily Moisture. It's a sulfate, but it doesn't dry my hair out. ($6 for a GIANT bottle at Sam's)

Condition, leave in- Aussie Moist. $5- $5.60 at Walmart for 29oz. )

Moisture- African Pride Olive Miracle Moisturizing lotion. ($3 at Walmart),

I also use my Aussie as a moisturizer through the week.

Seal- LouAna coconut oil. ($6 for 32oz at Walmart)

Style/moisture- Long Aid Activator Gel. (Curl activator gel.) ($6 for 32oz at Walmart)

Girl, I'm on a budget myself! I keep it cheap.
