Hi Curlies,

I'm almost 3 months natural and I'm trying to perfect one major style,(twist outs, bantu knot outs, etc.,) at a time. I'm almost there with the twist outs. I get really defined curls with my eco styler. I retwist at night with my leave in conditioner spritz ( shea moisture restorative conditioner, olive oil, and water), usually around the same number because my hair is prone to frizz, and I wear my satin scarf to bed. When I wake up and untwist it's frizzy and the definition is gone. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Maybe its the water? I've found that if I add even the slightest bit of water or watery spritz, I start to lose definition. I usually apply a little creamy moisturizer/ conditioner and maybe a bit of oil/ butter when I re-twist. I keep definition and moisture, for a couple days.

Try shea moisture curl n style milk or the smoothie. Both are creamy. I use the souffle on my adges for the second day. I noticed that shingling before twisting helps me with definition.

I usually spray with just enough water per section to make a little damp & then seal with a leave in or butter. I retwist every 2nd/3rd night in larger sections. Hair looks bigger & better as wk goes on. HTH.
I'd have to agree with lanise and sienna. I usually retwist with a creamy leave-in (for me, that's SM Curl and Style Milk). If I use a water-based product, I get more tangles and much less definition.

@ pjj: I only retwist once, usually on day 4. This occurs midweek when I don't have a lot of time, so I put in maybe 8 twists (as compared to my original 16ish). This results in a larger, fluffier twistout.

I just grab and twist. If I comb through first, it breaks up some of the clumping that my hair had from the original twistout--this means less definition for me.

But, there are those who do comb through it a little...so I would say, experiment with it and see what works for you.

Something that helps me is keeping the same patterns when I retwist/braid don't separate from hair that wasn't separated before. Respect the original pattern for definition and don't overdue it with the product when retwisting a thick styling cream should be enough I use raw Shea butter, SM smoothie, or SM hair milk I focus on my ends to avoid frizz during separation in the morning.
