Soft Hair All Day

The Problem: Although my hair starts off soft (and wet) at the beginning of the day it gets hard and dryish feeling by the end of the day. It's not helmet hard, but I wouldn't want anyone to touch it and if they did I definitely wouldn't get the "Oohhhh, your hair is soooo soft" fawning that other naturals tell stories about. The biggest problem is that on some days if I run my hand across the top, my hair feels like a man's unshaven face....very prickly (and I have about 3 inches of hair)

Other Info: I cowash every morning with Tresemme Naturals and use Knot Today and KCCC. I use Aubrey Organics GPB once a week. Whenever I use moisturizing products my hair gets super frizzy so I assumed my hair has enough moisture. I've only been natural since June (last relaxer March) so I don't have a real regimen down. Last clarifying shampoo was a week ago. Last treatment was last night with Curl Junkie Deep Fix. Also, pretty sure I have different porosity levels on one head.

I don't think the protein from GPB is the problem. My hair seems to like protein. Plus, when I didn't use it, I still had this problem.

What could be causing this prickly hard hair feeling?
What do you do to get your hair touchably soft?
Is your hair coarse?? I ask b/c mine is, and the tips of my hair can feel quite...what's the word...lol...well, sort of like you said, but if you touch the length of my hair, it's soft, and the strand is smooth. I figured that it's just because the hair strand is larger.
Hmmm, this could the problem.... Coarse meaning the thickness of the strand, right? I think my hair may be coarse if that is the right definition.

I'm glad this problem may go away once my hair grows out longer. I laid my head on my arm the other day and it felt horrible!

Thanks!

Coarse hair is about the thickness of the strand, but your porosity also has a lot to do with how well your hair can stay moisturized as well. I have coarse hair and I'm low to normal porosity and my hair can stay soft most of the day. Matter of fact, I haven't moisturized my hair since yesterday and my hair feels soft to the touch still. I wouldn't recommend skipping moisturizing though because it's getting too cold for that.

I've learned that if I wash my hair and Qhemet Biologics isn't the first thing I put on it, my hair will feel wirery and straw like no matter what else I put on it. The CTDG and the AOHC+HBTSG really do an excellent job at moisturizing my hair, especially on wash day. For me a good hair week starts with those three products. I moisturize and seal with other stuff throughout the week.

So I would suggest really evaluating what you're using. Moisturized hair should not feel brittle and prickly. If that's all you're using on your hair, no wonder you get that feeling by the end of the day. You're not sealing in the moisture first of all. The KCCC and the KT are two products I didn't find moisturizing on their own. Maybe if you found a good moisturizer to go in between those products your hair would feel a little better. It also seems like you may be using too much protein. IMO, coarse hair needs more moisture to balance it out than it does protein.

If your hair is coarse try using more leave-in or a curl cream instead of a gel. I tried a soft hold gel with a curl cream and my hair was lush for days. I only need a little spritz of water in the morning and at night.

Im guessing knot today is your leave in but I dont see an oil or butter you're sealing with. I always use one of those unless im using a curl creme or using homemade fsg because i add castor oil to mine.
Thanks everyone!

Just I will definitely look into ordering Qhemet products.

I thought that since my hair was super frizzy after deep conditioning that it was over moisturized ( I read somewhere that this causes frizzy/poofy hair). Guess I was wrong. I'll completely stop with the protein and deal with the poofy/frizziness for a while.
