It's called shrinkage and that's what some natural hair does. It shrinks. And you have a TWA because you just BC'ed, definition should not be a priority.
3c/4aish, high porosity, fine strands, medium density cottony curls.

You can't make your hair "drop". Either it will or it won't. No product is going to make your hair do anything it doesn't want to.
Hey Afro, Do you have a picture of a TWA that has the look you are trying to go for?

At this stage of your hair length your hair isnt going to stretch out and have that hangtime. Heck even at a under shoulder length curly it might not drop as you are looking for.

With the length and then count shrinkage in , your hair probably looks as if its hugging your scalp.

Just keep it moist and add a little gel if you want , but hang time.. you have a while to get there
How natural hair looks from wet to dry is totally different. For instance, when my hair is wet, I look like a wet cat - then when it dries, it's all cute in its huge fluffy state.

You can't get your TWA to drop, especially because it's a TWA. I think you need to be a little more patient with your hair - I have seen the threads you've started over the past couple of days, and I understand that natural hair can be exciting, but a watched pot never boils. Also, I've come to learn that often women who do "too much" to their hair have less retention - they are so busy trying to achieve a certain look that they are putting more stress on their strands.
People should be willing to stand by the things they say. Or they shouldn't say them. If your opinion can't stand in the light of day...maybe it should stay in the dark...in your head?

To get it to 'drop' you need patience, because whether or not it falls comes with length. The longer it gets, the more likely it will fall .

Mine didn't fall until 16months post relaxer ... Before that it grew sideways .

Patience !
The only thing that will make your hair "drop" are time, patience, and length. With a TWA, I'm curious as to what kinda "drop" you are looking for, espically since you just chopped and have only 1-2 inches of hair. I'm not even sure if that would look right....

I can't picture a TWA w/hang. Even ladies w/loose textures don't have hang when their hair is short. Shrinkage is a part of all types of curly hair. Just the nature of the beast. Maybe in a yearish your hair will start growing down. Maybe.
I know what OP is talking about, but the only way I've ever gotten that to happen was by accidentally being heavy handed with my styling cream while doing two-strand twists. My hair ended up feeling greasy for the entire week I was wearing my out for.
Type 4, fine/high density, high porosity
Last Relaxer - March '11
BC - August '11

Fall/Winter PRODUCTS

Clarifier - Paul Mitchell Three Low-poos - BoBeam Conditioners - TJ Nourish Spa, CJRM!, Co-Wash - N/A, Leave-Ins - N/A, Moisturizers - Afroveda Coco Latte, QBCTDG, CR Moisture Butter, Sealants/Stylers - Any BASK butters and creams, Jane Carter N&S, QBATB
OP, I can tell that you're really anxious for your hair to grow and all, but you really just have to be patient! I'm at APL and my hair still doesn't hang. Well defined it shrinks down to 4 inches (from 12). Lord only knows if it'll ever hang. At this stage, really, focus on the HEALTH of your hair, the length will come, and if you have the type of hair that hangs, that'll come too.
I have to agree with the other ladies. Don't expect hang with a twa. The weight of your hair as it grows causes it to drop/hang. Some textures grow up and out, and it takes a while before there's any real hang.

TWA stands for teeny weeny (afro), right? Well, nothing teeny weeny has much drop to it. So give it more time.

Lol at the jheri curl pics. Even those wouldn't drop if they were the length of a twa. OP I find it mind boggling that you just bc'd, have a twa and expect it to drop. Based on this and your other threads I've got to ask whether you were prepared for your bc. It seems as if you have unrealistic expectations for your hair imo. Perhaps I'm wrong. IDK.

On my EVO
it's funny that when i wanted to be a loose natural it was because i envied the chunky twist-out style. i didn't know what it was called but i wanted that sooooo bad. when i saw people with this look, i was in awe! sadly, my hair 'hangs' with the jheri curl look when i want it to grow up, out and look fierce.

i guess different strokes for different folks and all that jazz!
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice
And u don't think I'm in a hurry for my hair to "drop"! Yesterday, I had it "down", fat....face.... EVERYWHERE!! Girl uh uh! LoL! I think I'll let Rebel float on for a minute.

My mom who has long been a wig wearing natural who didnt care for her hair decided to bc. I have been trying to get her to do that for years but it wasnt until her old college roommate did it did she do it. Anyway I was home for Christmas and she made the comment that her hair grows up and not down. I said that is because her hair is kinky. She bit my head off. "My hair is not kinky. It is tightly coiled. Kinky and nappy are words white people made up to talk negative about our hair."
I know a lot us see nappy as negative. Didnt know kinky was too. I wanted to say so why did put heat and chemicals in my hair all those years but I decided to be more focused on teaching her to take care and show pride in her texture.
I understand you're excited and all, but like everyone else said, you'll need to be patient. Our hair won't hang when it's only 2 inches long. It could take 1-2 years, depending on well you retain your length and then that would depend on your hair's properties. Some people's textures never hang. Theirs grow up and out. There's nothing bad about it, it's just the way it is. My hair grew up and out for nearly a year before it started to hang but then-I BC'd after 18 months without a relaxer and my hair is very fine, thin and low density so after it got to a certain point, gravity took its course and started weighing my hair down. Your hair may or may not do that but you'd need to give it a minimum of a year to know for sure.
Fine haired, low density, highly porous curly kinky lady
Last relaxer: Not sure. 3/08 or 4/08
