That was a great game. I love March Madness. Those kids play with heart unlike the pros where it's all about the Benjamins. Plus I like how it's win or go home versus best of 7.

Supposed to go to Barcelona today but missed my flight. If I didn't get that ticket for 17 I would have been pissed.

So as a joke I posted a FB profile photo of someone who isn't me. A celebrity but not widely known. But now I'm getting all these likes and comments on how amazing I look. Now I'm thinkging maybe I should be offended. Even two of my aunties are on there. You would think your own family would know you.

adthomas, you work in news right?

out of curiousity would a reporter be punished for showing emotion while covering a story? something just popped into my head that happened on the news a couple years ago is why i'm asking.

see, a little while before my mom got sick, there was a big trial here in baltimore, the murder trial of a cult leader for starving a 18 month old boy to death when he was unable to say grace. horrible, right? The reporter covering the trial for the first week for wjz, mike helgren, was visibly upset during every broadcast the first 4 days. I mean visibly shaken by whatever he was hearing inside the court house. Then on day 5, he started reporting about a witness's description of the boy's final days, and he lost it, he started sobbing uncotrollably and the news cut away from him. My mom was convinced he got punished for that. said back in the day on the same station when oprah was just a reporter, she started crying and offered money to some people who lost their house in a fire, and she never reported on scene again. I'm wondering would mike have been punished? He was replaced by derek valcourt for the rest of the trial.

We aren't really supposed to show emotion but I doubt he was punished in this case. He probably was taken off or asked to be taken off because he couldn't handle it. I have covered a lot of capital murder/death penalty trials and the testimony can get really graphic. Sometimes they show photos of the bodies at the crime scene. One that sticks out is a guy sodomized raped a 17 year old girl, cut her throat, ran over with his car, then set her on fire to hide the evidence. his lawyers tried to get him out of it but people saw the girl get in the car with the man and forensics found pieces of her under his car. he was convicted. Covering court is not for everyone especially if you can't maintain your objectivity. I, fortunately or unfortunately, have become more detacted over time. but I feel bad for the families in the courtroom listening to how their loved one was tortured in their last moments..
the only time we really get "in trouble" is for expressing opinions on controversial subjects or for making political or commercial endorsements. We have to sign contracts that forbid that. you may remember Keith Olbermann was suspended when his company found out he made contributions to a political campaign. that said, people need to realize the difference between journalists and commentators. Someone like a Rush Limbaugh or a Bill O'Reilly are free to express opinions and so they can present "news" that is very biased whereas I can't or at least am not supposed to because I shouldn't have an agenda. Most newspapers have an editorial section so people know they are reading an opinion.

Dating is not for the faint hearted. It's not what it's made out to be in the movies but it does have it's moments

Yes, I have.
I was talking to a guy friend last night and he told me he'll never seriously date anyone else without doing a background check. His last girlfriend he found out she was an addict and was stealing from his company. He had let her handle his books because she had said she had a degree from a school she didn't. Plus turns out she'd been in trouble with the law before for stealing and had filed bankruptcy several times including while they were living together but didn't tell him. Along with so many other lies.

I've never done a check but I'm thinking I will. I have been burned a few times finding out about wives. I dated a guy for months who had told me he was divorced then later admitted they were separated.

What company did you guys use?

I had a friend who was doing private detective work at the time. He did it for me.
