Yes really. You can't straighten, you shouldn't blow dry, you shouldn't wear weaves or hide your hair under wigs, or put in extension braids, changing your texture is a sin but its okay to do twist-outs and braid-outs to get a curl pattern, all relaxed folks are self-hating.....seriously??? Maybe I don't get out of the NC/4a boards enough cuz these people in the other group are out of their minds.

As far as heat damage, I had it as a permie and I got it cut off because my hair was breaking. My personality is I'd rather cut my losses and make a fresh start than deal with a HAM which is why I bc'd after 4 months. I realize not everyone is comfortable in that. I don't judge. At the same time there are people who have bad damage be it chemical/heat/whatever who are unwilling to cut but gripe over and over again about the condition of their hair. Like that chick in one of the other threads who has heat damage but keeps flat ironing her hair because she says that's the only way she can make it look presentable. I didn't want to waste my time responding. Chile bye.

Yes. Halle Berry has type 2 diabetes and she's probably never been overweight in her life. Get yourself checked out.

ETA..Seems type 1 is eventually fatal unless it's treated with insulin. So you probably do not have that one.

Skinny people have diabetes too. Actually type I is very prevalent in caucasians. Type II gets a lot of press now because it is often linked to lifestyle habits and minorities eating diets that their bodies are not familiar with and the "Western"/USA diet.

There was an article in last month's Shape or Women's Health about "skinny-fat" people (their words, not mine). The subject of the article was a "physically fit" Asian woman (type ii diabetes is really prevalent in Asian people).

Just wanted to add that in Type I your pancreas is defective from birth. It burns out rather early with seemingly no "wrongdoing" on your part. With type II your pancreas burns out a little later but still early (because honestly your pancreas, if not defective, should last your lifetime) from "wrongdoing", usually slowly. Wrongdoing would be poor diet and/or lack of exercise. It used to be "adult onset diabetes" because the typical afflicted person was middle aged. Nowadays they just say type II because 12 year olds are popping up with it.

Belly fat is believed to be very bad if you're trying to not get diabetes.

May I ask..why is it that this (type 2 diabetes) is affecting Asians so much..? I am not trying to be racist but I always thought generallly Asians were healthy because they have better diets on average. And what are they technically calling skinny-fat people ? I mean I've heard the term but can you explain to me medically what that means and what are the ramifications ?

This whole diabetes thing seems so scary.

They aren't carting people off to death camps and seriously denying anyone their right to exist simply because of who they are...they are just a bunch of over zealous advocates of natural hair that down non-naturals in a major way. Hilter and nazis weren't just over zealous or downing people because they didn't agree. They were pure evil to the core and killed millions of inoccent people and still to this days folks are having to deal with the ramifications of that history. Similiar to how blacks in the USA are still dealing with the ramifications of slavery. And I don't think anyone here (at least I hope not) wants to make light of black American history.

I understand to a lot of people..they just think it's "cute" and "funny" to throw out Hilter's name or call folks nazis but in reality some over enthused natural hair zealots are not even remotely comparable. I'm not trying to knock anyone's right to say whatever or put anyone in their place..I'm simply voicing my view on it. No more and no less.

Wow I didn't know tika sumpter was natural. Pretty hair too.

I was think about this today, is it wrong that I'm jealous of girls that have always been natural? I mean I always wanted to be natural. As I kid I would kick and scream so bad my mom's boyfriend had to hold me down on perm day. When I was 8 I saw the craft and rachel true's hair and wanted that. When I told mom she explained that it wasn't possible because of the perms. That I hated. And fought every step of the way. Up until that point I didn't know what a perm was suppose to do. When I found out I was devastated, and actually told my mother I hated her. And then I got knocked into next week...but anyway I'm rambling. I always feel a bit jealous when a natural talks about how they were never relaxed, or the care their mother would take with their hair. My mom ment well, but she honestly believed baby oil was a good moisturizer. I started thinking about this on the bus coming home from work. There were a group of teenagers coming home from school. One of the girls looked to be about 13 and had what looked to be a 4a/b WnG down to her butt, held back by a cute little head band. I felt so jealous, at that age I would have sold my soul to satan for butt length natural hair. Today I would probably sacrafice my leg to the one titted albino ethiopian (yeah I stole it) to have bra strap length natural hair. And that ain't even that long! I just feel like it's messed up that I have to covet something like long natural hair, I feel like I should have it. Be use to it. And not even think about it. I'm seriously fighting the urge to call my mom in the hospital and go "you robbed me!"

The jealousy is pointless.

From what I've read (and yes, I'm talking in general terms), many Asians [like Native Americans, African Americans, West Indians (I know I know), people in the countries in Africa, native peoples of the South Pacific, etc.] have some predispositions and a lot of it is traced back to lifestyle, particularly diet. Many of these groups have/had very specific diets before the refined "Western" diet came along. It's full of foods that make your pancreas basically go on a roller coaster. For example, eating say a milkshake is kind of like having your heat completely off because you're not home and then coming home, turning up the heat, plugging in some space heaters, turning on your oven, and making a fire in the fireplace. All of those actions in the end of the sentence are the equivalent of eating a donut in that metaphor. I'm not doing a really good job of explaining it right now, but I'll try to find some articles later, I have to go to work. LOL

There's no medical term from skinny fat from what I can tell, since fat is not a diagnosis. I'll have to look that article up. I still have the magazine somewhere.

"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."

It took Paula Deen 3 years to tell people she had Diabetes and her reason:
" I would come with information, and I would be armed to be able to help others."

No, you wanted to be "armed" with a lucrative pharmaceutical deal. Cuz truth is, you may cut back on a stick of butter now, but you been pushing them 40,000 calorie meals on the show for the past three years while you knew you had the "sugah".

Money. That is what it is about.

Like some black Americans with Soul Food..instead of using unhealthy ingredients some have switched out that for healthier options but are still able to make great tasting Soul Food.

Now to learn she has diabetes...it's unfortunate. But yeah I think her concern was definitely about her livelihood and that's why she didn't come forward about her condition. Sad.

I personally didn't realize how deadly it was until my adulthood, as every person who had the "sugah" didn't seem to alter their lifestyle much. Paula Deen is a hoot for sure, but I take exception with her cooking the same way she's been cooking, knowing full well she was not the picture of health. She in my opinion, was definitely misleading her audience. People should be smart enough to make their own decisions concerning their health, but I bet there were some fools looking at Paula thinking 'look at her eating all she wants and not being sick, why can't I do it too?' I used to tell people I think she is operating on a bamboo's heart or she ain't eating half the stuff she claims to be eating... but I guess there were side-effects after all.

I am most likely hypoglycemic, which means that my sugar levels are too low. I am afraid for my doctor's appointment because sometimes this condition is associated with pre- diabetes. I don't have any symptoms of diabetes though, and I am pretty certain that my sugar levels are low due to my inability to eat enough during the day.
But you better believe if I am diabetic, I won't be pouring 4 cups of sugar in my food...

I don't know why people are scared of awkwardness.

I have a habit of just being awkward then I just bask in the awkwardness. I'm not bothered, I don't know why other people are. Like awkward silences, I live for that ****. I don't have anything to say for days. Don't come around me if you hate awkward silences, cause they're my forte.

That being said, I do love a good conversation! I can discuss subjects with people forever. But if I don't have anything to say, I rather not just make up something just for the sake of it. Also, I prefer listening anyway.
