The New & Improved Say It I Dare You

I have bronchitis. I got a steroid shot yesterday. I feel better but still crappy. I left work early today. I don't care for my work situation. Today my boss and the indecisiveness of the company president gave me a headache and made me regret going in. However I had a lot of work to get done. It's like if I am not there everything falls apart. That isn't a good feeling.

Quick thoughts: riding in the car with a male friend his girlfriend calls and they are just having a casual conversation not really talking about anything and it goes in for about 10 minutes. Rude or no? I never knew the etiquette of when a SO call and ur around company.

I missed you Adthomas! Welcome back! I've noticed that a couple of new posters are giving out wrong information about silicones, porosity, hair types. I guess us old timers are needed. Lol

While some things are a matter of opinion and doing what works for you, I'm pretty sure putting a relaxer in your hair isn't going to resolve a dryness problem. Never heard of it. High porosity hair is the most difficult to keep moisturized. If someone wants to relax I think they should resolve their dryness issue first and get their hair in the best health beforehand. Not do something that will make hair already not in the good shape weaker. That's my opinion.

I am going to send you a pm.

How do you feel about people having conversations in front of you in another language you don't speak when they can speak English?
Guess who is going to see Eric Clapton on Sunday
That seems rude to me, but maybe he knows gf would have gotten jealous knowing he was in the car with another woman and he didn't talk to her.

In one role I was doing I actually got two workers in trouble with their boss for talking in one of the languages I grew up around but don't speak in the same room as me.

We were the only three people in the room so they couldn't understand how their boss knew. Plus I had said loudly I don't "speak" a foreign language.

The tellers at a neighborhood bank I used in Chicago spoke in a foreign language all the time. It was super rude.

Also, I think a ten minute chat is kind of long to make someone else sit through. It depends if there was an emergency, though. I had a friend who had a weird husband who must have called her four times in the half hour ride we took to our destination. The emergency? Imaginary decorations for a room they hadn't built yet.

@AdThomas - I PMed you.

I think it's rude when people exclude others from a conversation when there is no need to.

I am finally feeling like I am getting better though I still feel crappy. I figured asthma would kill me one day but this is crazy. I actually think I was having an asthma attack today at work. I was breathing hard and my face began to burn.

I also need to fond a way to deal with my boss. He yelled at me today. I want to leave but I want to leave for the right opportunity and company. I'm tired of being in abusive situations at work so I need to put more thought into employers.

I have asthma, too, multi.

I wonder if the stress you're under at work is making it worse?

Stress triggers asthma attacks in me.

Multi, please find another job. It's not worth it being stressed out most of your waking day, minimum five days a week. Stress negatively affects several aspects of your health.

Thanks Claudine and Juana. I think it's a mixture of stress and living in a city that isn't good for my allergies, which trigger my asthma.

My boss isn't as bad as my last one and this place isn't as unprofessional than another place I worked. It isn't the right place for me though. Since I'm considered a job hopper I was trying to stay for a year or at least until I found a job and company that are a good match for me. We are supposedly hiring another person which will help. My boss said he would also move to another office away from me which would be great if we get another person. He is a huge stressor for me. So if it does get bad enough I will leave. I am just looking for ways to be smart about it. I have been networking and looking to volunteer so I could find a better opportunity.

It is common at my job for cowrkers to be in a car together so if someone gets on the phone we're used to it. Sometimes the phone conversation is work related but if it's a personal conversation we always mention to the person on the other line who in the car with us and then it's like such and such says hello then continue the convo. but it won't ever be super long. probably about dinner plans, doing an errand ect. The way he did it was rude. Even if I call my mom and someone is visiting she mentions who is there and we say our hi's. That's what I was taught.

As for the language I admit I have been guilty of this but only over the phone not in person. Sometimes it's because the person I'm talking to doesn't speak English and sometimes I do it because I'm having a discussion and nosey work people are within earshot. I have coworker who speaks Vietnamese on the phone. Doesn't bother me. My stepmom got mad when I was a kid because I was talking to my mom in Spanish while visiting my dad but it was nunherbidness even though I was talking about that heffa. If I'm on the phone with someone else I don't think the other person has an reasonable expectation of knowing what I'm saying. IMO having a convo with another person next to me is different. the nail salons are the absolute worst. My friend would be paraniod they are talking about her but I'm

I have overheard many convos in Spanish about me because people around here assume unless you look a stereotype you don't speak Spanish. Then they look stupid embarrased when I tell them I understood everything you just said. on another note, I have friends from Mexico who say they have had strangers make rude comments to them about speaking Spanish to one another in public. They tell them "This is America. Speak English". I couldn't believe it. I wish someone would say that to me. They'd get what they want when I cursed them out in ingles.

It has been a while since I've posted but I needed to vent in safe place with little judgement.

I think I am about to lose a friend because she is white and willfully ignorant about race. I just do not know how to deal. I was explaining why the picture of women in India bleaching their skin is not funny because to her white people tan and they are bleaching hahah, "people want what they don't have especially if there is no diversity in their culture" she says (wtf has she really not seen light and dark skin Indians?) taken as me saying white people treat others as second class citizens? Why is it that people have to twist your words into something so disgusting? Why is it that this fact I am telling her is simply my "opinion". Even though I presented articles and made mention of studies done about the topic of european beauty standards and self hate. Why is it that doing a simple google search that would completely validate my "opinion" is something that she refuses to do? Why does she feel sorry for me because I know racism and prejudice still exist? This stuff is annoying when its a stranger but when its your friend it is maddening.

I can't be friends with people like this.

Sorry Tae. I have cut people loose over similar thongs. Some people's frame of reference is so backwards to me or I have no interest in trying to relate to is easier to just end the friendship. I do think sometimes people have good intentions but because they don't fully understand history their solutions and opinions are all wrong when trying to fix social issues.
