Multi, I realize that. I am pointing out that his racist views and discriminatory actions have been known for years. Why didn't David Stern take action? He could have been suspended at the very least, he could have been banned before this. Why did it take this recording for something to be done?

Well at least decisive action was taken. It may not change his backwards thinking but maybe it will serve as an example that you really do not need to have diarrhea at the mouth.

OAN: someone has meme going around with Sterling saying "These hoes ain't loyal." Really?Really??Really???? Besides this being disrespectful that is the least of the issue with the Sterling debacle.

gagirl, what perplexes me is there are some men calling for her to be prosecuted for releasing the taped conversation. They are stating it was taped without his knowledge. Everything that I have read says that he not only knew he was being taped, but she had his permission to do so. If she taped without his knowledge, he would have sued her by now. Why is she being made the issue? Why isn't she being applauded for her courage? She had to have known by being his mistress and releasing this tape would subject herself to ridicule, but she did it anyway.

In th US, Depending on the state it can be legal to record as long as one person knows it's being recorded.

All-party consent states
Twelve states currently require that all parties consent to the recording: California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii (in general a one-party state, but requires two-party consent if the recording device is installed in a private place), Illinois (debated, see next section), Maryland, Massachusetts,] Montana (requires notification only), Nevada,[20] New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington. (However section 3 of the Washington law states that permission is given if any of the parties announces that they will be recording the call in a reasonable manner if the recording contains that announcement.)

One-party consent states
All other states (and the District of Columbia) not listed above require only that one party consent.
I tried to delete my response since I see my questions were answered. It's late and I'm fully medicated so forgive me.

The wife needs to sit down somewhere, she knew about the relationship, the lawsuit is to save face. Why isn't she trying to take him to the cleaners instead of going after the other woman? He gave her the gifts.

Why she is denying it is puzzling. She was wrong for being with a married man, he was wrong for being with someone other than his wife. I believe this recording was released because of the lawsuit. She tried to get the wife to drop it, wife wouldn't, tape was released. They lost the game of chicken.

Why would he consent to being taped?

(I'm genuinely perplexed about this. Have I missed something? He knew he was being taped?)

Okay, now, it's clear he's got serious issues. ^

Not one word has emerged that leads me to feel he didn't deserve what he got.

Ok I have seen several articles talking about how Sterling's privacy was violated and he is being persecuted for something said in the privacy of his own home. I hate to say it but this is such a flimsy devil advocate's moment for those saying this. Let's switch the group for a moment and pretend he said something sexual about underaged women/girls and had some type of business that worked with young girls or said something sexist and has women working for him or homophobic remarks and has those from the LFBT community working for him. Would this even be brought up? Why is it with race it becomes debatable? Why- because no one is innocent when it comes to the race game and they don't want to be seen like Sterling or be "crucified" as he has or you (proverbial you) think this way privately too about other minorities or whites/Caucasians?? Please tell me....

I have been in the situations exactly like those of the girlfriend in this recording. The opinions expressed in this tape are not an anomaly. These opinions he expressed are very common. I recall reading the same about Mariah Carey. Folk liked her when she was married to Tommy Mattola but said she was just NASTY once she married a black man.
Really, I believe many of those folk who are condemning Donald Sterling publicly, share the same views privately themselves but just don't want to be caught saying them publicly either.
Basically he wanted his girlfriend to pass as a "good white or Latina girl" and not do anything to allow herself to be perceived as Black so that she could have a "decent image" to be with him. It is so sad but that IS how many feel.
It is so sad that he is saying if you do not or can not pass as White, you are unacceptable to be with me. This in 2014
I was married to a man for 20 years who called everyone Black a N******. He LOVED calling people "damned N*****s" He ultimately found the Whitest woman with the palest skin, the whitest shade of blonde hair, and the whitest grey eyes who would take him and divorced me. Good riddance to bad racist rubbage!

I was just so sick of hearing that. As for his "punishment" I don't judge it as being good or fair or bad . Just... something was done. If he thinks these things he probably will never change his mind at this point. He's still rich. But something was done. So I can be slightly at peace.

ETA: also I forgot who posted the article adding on to what I said. However Don Imus went on to get another job, Dog the Bounty Hunter still had his tv show and to me that speaks louder than the supposed "outrage" that America felt towards racism. I will even throw in Michael Vick I think it was said he was able to get some endorsements again.

Ah, now with Michael Vick, you're in my camp.

I remember him complaining that refs were being extra-hard on him when he returned to the NFL. Poor sadistic baby-man. And a rescue group I've worked with still publicly protests whenever he plays in our city. The very idea that he may get another dog someday makes me sick.

I don't want to derail the Sterling talk, though.
