The New & Improved Say It I Dare You

Because it's saying out loud and directly to that person that she doesn't look good or well. It's insulting.

I kind of can't believe that someone with whom I thought I was sort of friends went out of her way to tell me I look tired when I'm not. And then she repeated herself when I said, "Really?" in a stunned voice. Have I told her she looked better with highlights? No, I have not. Why? Because it's rude.

I've been surrounded by people who look tired for various reasons including health ones for years.

OMG this is something one of my administrators like to tell me at one of my schools. Anytime I look not happy her go to phrase is " you look tired." It gets on my effing nerves. Many times if a Taiwanese person says it, it is a way of them saying you look like crap but trying to show concern at the same time. So yeah it is irritating as hell unless I actually am I tired which when she says it and that only happens once in a blue moon.

Starting online university classes on Monday that will allow me to finish my BA in a year. It's weird considering that its in English at a British university, and I moved to France to pursue an education, but the university is highly reviewed, and I would feel accomplished if I could be done with a bachelors and start a masters degree this same time next year. I'll be 29 in November and I'm starting to feel my age. I'm single and to be honest, after my off and on boyfriend of 10 years left me for someone else(horrible story that I recounted emotionally on here), I'm feeling worthless, unattractive, and a bit lost. I never studied online, and even though I would be granted the same degree as someone who did the program face to face, I still wonder if I would be just as qualified. I feel like I'm in a dark room with no Windows and doors, and all I can do is sob on the floor.

Congrats on school Soleil! Are you able to speak to someone in your field who hires to see if an online degree will hinder you getting employment? Also, keep meeting your goals and you'll find a better selection of men who will value you for who you are - not who they can mold you into.

there are periods of life when we feel really bad, but things almost always get better. just hang on and keep going and life will improve. it may not be right away, but it will happen. i promise.

go to a bakery there and get something wonderful and breathe in that diesel-scented paris air. it will help.

i'm rooting for you.

The UK universities seem to have great online programs, and even their degrees from the strictly online uni, Open University, get people hired almost instantly. At least here in Europe. My school is in the top 50 universities in the UK as of this year's ranking, and their distance learning option for a psychology degree seems to be very good and is certified. I guess I'm just cautious because of everything I hear about online schools in the US.

@claudine191 and @multicultcurly fair enough.

I actually know a few people who are dead because they didn't believe people when they told them they looked "tired". Granted they were all over 35.

Unfortunately if you see people all the time they always look "normal" to you however "tired" they are.
It sounds like you're seeing it from a health perspective, while I'm seeing it from a social appropriateness perspective.

No biggie.

I've never taken offense to someone saying I looked tired, and I don't think anyone has taken offense to me saying it to them. I kinda would be surprised if someone were offended by that.

Looking tired doesn't necessarily mean you look horrible, it just means....you look................... tired, whether that means you were out running, look sleepy, overwhelmed, have a lot on your mind, sick, etc. I guess if you are NOT tired you could perceive that as someone saying you dont look too good, but I mean.....ehh.

Usually when someone says you look tired it's coming from a mild (albeit very mild) tone of concern....usually they aren't being shady.
Okay, well, people react differently. Some people don't mind it, and some people do.

@soleil: sable confitures always cheer me up. Hope you can have one, or some other sweet, soon.

Made it back home safely after 8 hour drive and not going to bed until wee morning hours the past few nights.I'm sure I look tired because I feel it. Enjoyed myself though.
Got my first Durian fruit today. Little disappointed that the guy opened it for me though. I wanted to do the honors AND I saw that Jackfruit is coming in!!!!!!!
