Rep. Rush wears hoodie on House floor for Trayvon Martin (1:2 - The Washington Post

Racial profiling will stop only when black people in the U.S. stop committing crimes in disproportionately high numbers. Rush wants to distort this common sense reality of survival to one of racism. The real racism is that he and other liars like him refuse to place the blame where it belongs - on black criminality. But that would take guts and integrity, which he lacks. Watch the video tape of armed robberies and assaults in progress - the bad guys almost always wear hoodies to conceal their identities. But Rush doesn't care about the fears of law abiding citizens. Rather, his priority is to score race-baiting points by protecting the rights of the black ganstas in their hoodies. Rush joins the ranks of the despicable clowns who takes the sides of the criminal, only because the criminal is black. Contemptible.

I still think that's gross. Even when I had a relaxer, I washed my hair every week. I know ppl can't smell themselves, but your scalp must FEEL really nasty if it's giving off that smell.

I don necessarily think everyone has to wash every week, because some ppl don't sweat as much, don't es as much product, or they find a way to keep their scalp clean between washes. But how are you gonna just sit up there with a bunch of sweat and gunk building up on your scalp, attacking ppl's noses?! What's the point of looking nice if you're repelling ppl with your scalp?

And I find it funny that some relaxed women like to go IN on naturals, talking about how dirty natural hair looks, but you go months shout wash yours

I think a lot of west Indians have issues with Haitians, but I have no idea why. Like, ppl consider it an insult to e called Haitian. When I ask my friends and amily why, they never have an answer. I'm starting to think it's because Haitians are less mixed with non blacks than the other islands... But it could be that I. Thinking hat because m just hyper aware of race these days.

Not all Hispanics are black and I'd venture to say the overwhelming majority of them do not relate to being a negro at all. And don't want to either whether they are or not.

Tell Cameron Diaz she's black and she'd look at you like you are stupid. She's got a white mother and Hispanic father just like George Zimmerman..he hardly AIN'T black. Geraldo Rivera ain't black. He's got a white Jewish mother and a Hispanic father.

And I bet George Zimmerman doesn't relate to being black worth a damn. I guess JoAnna Garcia, Charlie Sheen, and Christina Aguilera, and Gloria Estafan are all black folks as well. Funny how no one regards them as such. But eh.. I guess it goes both ways.. no one thinks of Sammy Davis Jr, Christina Milian, Melissa De Sousa, Carmelo Anthony, and Antonio Fargas as Hispanic though all of them technically are/were...people just call them black folks. Go figure.
I thought that was just out of nowhere. Very few Hispanic people identify as black.
It's really a matter of community and culture over race.
I don't identify as black because to me being black was being American, and being part of a community. As a Spanish speaker, I'm part of a different community. I grew up going to school with other Hispanics, from pretty much every country in Latin America. These were people who were immigrants, too and who lived in Latin America just like me at some point. And while I'm American now due to citizenship, I couldn't identify as such growing up (though I do now when I try to explain why I can only relate to Dominicans on a certain level, or Hispanic men for that matter), so I couldn't identify with people I saw as being American. Basically, it's my Hispanic roots that I come up with when talking about identity, because with race, well, who can say? Like most Dominicans, I'm a whole mix of things.
Of course, identifying as white feels even sillier, and my reaction is to laugh and do a sad little head shake at Hispanics who want to call themselves white like it's some badge of honor. Looked in the mirror lately?
I don't have any problem with Hispanics saying they aren't black. Never have..never will. What irks me is when black people try to tie them to the black race as if they MUST make sure everyone knows they aren't the only minority or "Hispanics aren't special". I feel like the bottom line is they (Hispanics) don't think of themselves like that and they aren't treated as such..particularly white looking Hispanics. Furthermore, many many Hispanics are really Caucasians..that's just how it is..like it or not. Doesn't matter if they look swarthy or not..their ancestry tells a different story. This is NOT to say some Hispanics are not black. Clearly there are some as I pointed out. But I just think it's dumb as hell when black people..I should say black Americans because that's what I mean specifically try to act like Hispanics should be down for all black causes and run around saying Hispanics are black people. To me, it's just stupid.

Just like when Jennifer Lopez said the N-word in one of her songs.. I heard some silly black Americans saying.. "Well she black..so she can say it!" WHAT ? She ain't hardly black. Jennifer Lopez may have some black ancestry somewhere way back in her line but for all intents an purposes she's not black, she's not treated like she's black, she's not called black, she doesn't regard herself as black, and no reference has EVER been made about her being "black" in society at all. She's not looked at in the same way black folks are..never has..and never will be. And I feel like the sooner certain black Americans get certain fundamental things through their heads about what's really up when it comes to this stuff...the better.

Oh and let me add.. about the skin tone thing.. well look at Jessica Alba. She never really seemed to identify as "Hispanic". She's always seemed to do things to shy away from it. Even said her Hispanic father didn't want her and her brother learning Spanish because they are American. She said her mother has light hair and lighter eyes and she always wanted to be that way growing up. She wanted to be white. Well turns out from DNA tests..she is predominately Caucasian..she just has a olive complexion. I never considered her anything but white in the first place..so didn't surprise me.

Sad to say, but Zimmerman will probably not be charged and Trevor Dooley will probably see some jail time. People seem to forget Florida is part of the South.

And you know what I noticed.. a lot of the places that have the "stand your ground" laws seem mainly white and mainly Republican. I sure found that interesting.
You are right on both accounts.

I'd like to know what in the world is the difference between these two towns? Not much difference.
Both started out rural, but now now are more suburban. Like what is the history behind them? They were and still predominantly populated by caucasians. Although Sanford has more black people than Valrico percentage wise. What are the people like there ..meaning are they mixed racially..are these places affluent or something? Neither area is affluent. Valrico has more Hispanics than black people as opposed to Sanford, which has far few Hispanics than black people or white people. Do black people often get discriminated against there like you hear in places like Mississippi or Georgia? Yes, we have. It has gotten better. But obviously it still happens.

Also more background on why there is such outrage regarding the handling of the Trayvon Martin case.

Sanford Cop's son beat a homeless black man, it was caught on video. After the cops reviewed the video, he was allowed to go home. Cop's son is white. The article gives more details about his later "punishment".

Sanford cop son punch: Sanford cop's son gets probation for punching homeless man - Orlando Sentinel
Thank you for this information.. I actually posted that story about the cop's son in this thread some pages back. I wasn't shocked at all.. seems the lead investigator in the Trayvon Martin case was the same lead investigator in the cop's kid's case.

Keeny, my best guy friend was explaining to me not to long ago that most carib folks think that haitians are "hoodrats" (his words not mine). I have asked him to clarify exactly why but all he said was "somalians and haitians act alike". I'm like "wtf is that supposed to mean??" Awaiting clarification.

Shooo...both my babies were cute as hell. Ion know what yall on...

Turtles, when you have a baby, a chemical reaction convinces you that your baby is the best thing alive. That's what over the years keeps you from killing and eating it. Even when the baby cries or poops, you'll think it's the cutest thing ever. Just be ready.

Ok, he's on the phone with me right now. He has some points on the "are hispanics white or black" thing too but I'll come back to that.

Haitians basically are disliked by the other Caribs because their "culture" is not like any of the others. They pride themselves as being the only group to have directly liberated themselves from white colonists and they have this brash bravado to go with that. That bravado turns everyone else off. He also said that they still have strong French and East African culture and views that seem to undermine the cultural vibe of everyone else. So they are looked at basically like black sheep, so to speak. That's probably why no one will say it out loud. Haitians tend to do enough talking as it is (again this is from him, not me lol).

I've heard this stuff too.. and it always seemed to me that Haitians are hated so much because they are considered "black" because they seem less racially mixed than other island folks of color. And they obviously often look the least mixed. I've heard them be called the n word...and it being said that they are no better than the n's from America. I've heard this several times from Dominicans.

I think it is sort of that same dumb stuff with some POC in the USA. Where certain lighter skinned people that look mixed or are mixed sometimes swear they are better than all the rest of the "regular" negros. Meaning those that are darker. I think that whole European standard thing... it's has really jacked all sorts of POC up..and not just black ones either. Look at the Indian people that make such a HUGE deal out of lighter skin.
