It's a good thing you weren't with me during the jury selection process. (See my post above)

Two weeks ago I received a jury summons. When I reported, I (along with 150+ people) was given a questionnaire. We were told that it would help the judge and council with the jury selection process. We were told to answer honestly.

When we were called back this week, we weren't aware that not only would the judge and council review our answers, but we would be questioned about them in front of the judge, council AND ALL THE OTHER PROSPECTIVE JURORS.

One of our questions was "Do you have any prejudices or biases against African Americans?" *smh* One lady tried to suddenly have a memory lapse regarding her answer. The defense attorney (Black man) reminded her of it and said, "Your answer was, 'I believe I might be prejudiced against blacks.' Why would answer that way?"
Her: *stuttering* Um... well... I...
Him: You indicated that you are a teacher.
Her: Yes, I teach 1st grade in a school that doesn't have very many students of... um... my... uh,... kind of people.
Him: Do you, perhaps see a difference between AA kids and others of different races?
Her: Yes. For instance, Asian kids tend to be very dedicated to their studies. AA kids, on the other hand, are much more argumentative with me, and they're much more active about not keeping their hands to themselves. They give me a lot of talk back when I tell them what to do. *pause* But, they ARE very good at entertaining... and they're good about showing respect, like 'yes ma'am, no ma'am'..."
Him: I see. So, of the years you've been teaching (5) how many students have you taught? A few? Hundreds?
Her: Hundreds.
Him: Of those hundreds of kids, were the majority of them AA?
Her: *pause* No.
Him: And of those AA kids, were all of them misbehaving? Most? A few?
Her: *pause*... No... just... a few...
Him: So what would give you cause to be prejudiced against an entire group of people based solely on the behavior of a FEW misbehaving children?
Her: Well... I... uh...

Needless to say, I was squirming in my seat the entire time this line of questioning was going on. It took everything I had to not yell out... but I didn't want to possibly be charged with contempt and/or fined.

Thankfully she was dismissed from the jury pool.
Dang. I hope she learned something that day. Ugh.

Plus they don't know me from Adam or Eve...I could have been gone with all their stuff (they left purses, laptops, a phone, backpacks, the whole nine). They should be glad they asked an honest random stranger instead of a crook.

They better hurry up, I have places to go! I don't want to leave it here just for anyone to grab (especially since I did agree to watch it)...but dang!
These days you cannot trust people.. I wouldn't watch anyone's stuff if I don't already know them. They could be setting you up to take a fall.. leave their "stuff". If their stuff was so important they'd have been back already.
Wow, I didn't think about that....It's just something that gets asked in the library so often that I didn't think anything of it.

They finally returned (about 5 minutes after I posted).

I'm watching 'who do you think you are?' on NBC. Reba found out her people owned slaves. I want to trace my family history, but I have no information at all. Not even a flippin name. I asked my mom for her mother, gramma angie's, actual first name. She told me with a straight face she has no idea. I'm like "you were 14 when she passed, how do you make it to 14 without knowing your own mother who raised you's name?" and she's like "Ion know. I was a selfish kid, everything was always about me. It never occured to me that I should ask mama anything about herself." seriously?

Yeah, my mom was youngest of 8 kids. Unfortunately everyone was at least 10 years older than my mom, so she was never close to anyone, plus my mother can hold a grudge like you wouldn't believe. Because of various feuds with her brothers and sisters, I was raised without a extended family, I don't know anyone, I can't even keep names straight. I've been hearing rumors that aunts and uncles are beginning to die off. I believe it, my mom is the youngest and she's soon to be 56 in HORRIBLE health. Last year when my mom was diagnosised with cancer there was one chick I'd never met who I'm told is my first cousin visiting her in the hospital. She was old enough to be my mom. I didn't talk to her very much before her and mom started arguing about something that happened between them years ago and she left never to return. I think mom has actually burned every single bridge I can use. I have a older brother and sister who know more about aunts, uncles and cousins, but neither knows how to find anyone.

Have you tried Beauty One on Roosevelt right off 90/94 near U of IL campus? They sell it. Or there are 2 larger beauty supply stores on the Northside. One on Wilson just east of Broadway and the other is on Broadway just north of Wilson...both of these sell it but the neighborhood is very questionable. I like Beauty One but they sell out fast.
