I agree that i neither want nor expect scholarships, grants or special treatment purely Bc I'm a minority. But you're right, unless you spent your last two years of hs finding a cure for cancer, it's hard to get decently subsidized based on your merit. I just graduated hs and I had trouble with getting money as well...and I'm attending an in-state school.
One in-state school I applied to is my dad's alma mater. I was admitted, but the school is known for being VERY sporadic and obviously biased with who they admit and who they reject. For example, a girl in my grade who was arrested last summer for drug possession (which you must disclose on your apps), has a known and very apparent drug problem, and has a mediocre gpa got in. But, a close friend who has never been in any trouble and has a pretty decent gpa and test scores did not get in. :shrug:
The in-state school that I elected to enroll in has barely offered me anything. No minority scholarship and only a small amount of money based on my performance in hs (i hope this doesnt sound like bragging, but i think this info strengthens my argument lol!): graduated with a 4.26 senior yr gpa, 4.14 cumulative over the four years at one of the top college-prep schools in the US; 2098 sat, 33 act; mix of honors and ap classes; accomplished art student and varsity lacrosse captain, ranked as one of the top 5 players of my position in the state.
So it's not like I wouldn't be an asset to a university! It just seems like they're making it harder and harder for people to go to college. Tuition goes up every year and scholarships continue to go down...unless you can shoot a basket or run a mile in 4 minutes flat.

Well, they didn't have problems, but I think it's ultimately an individual thing.
I don't think I'd be able to share my (hypothetical) man and I kind of hate that a dude would be all gung-ho to share me.

OMG I just heard about the face eating guy today. That is by far the craziest story I've heard in my entire life thus far. THAT trumps everything crazy that I've endured or heard of in my life. Like, I can't. I just can't.

You seem very accomplished and mature for your age, Rimi, and you write very well (even if we disagree on certain shoes  ). I hope the school you'll be attending is the school of your choice.
Do colleges not want lacrosse players, or did you decide not to pursue that direction?

One of my worst fears is to be sent to a murder scene and find out it involves a friend or family member. Today was a close call. I went to a street my ex bf lives on without an exactly address or name of victim. I was really worried but turned out the shooting was at the house across the street with some kids playing with a gun. We dont talk anymore but we were together for 3 years and I would hate for something like that to happen to him or his family.

Neither one of the aforementioned schools has a team, but i was contacted my sophomore year by a recruiter from a small liberal arts school. Not long after, though, I decided that I didn't want to commit to playing on a college team.
However, the school I will be attending does have a club team, which I plan on trying out for. There's not as big of a commitment playing on a club team, so I can focus on school and still have a life. And hopefully stay away from that "Freshman 15"...eek!
