I agree with the general consensus regarding the whole YouTube and business thing. I don't know her channel that well but I've watched some videos of hers before.
No savvy business woman that I know would go around throwing all kinds of attitude to the companies they are supposed to be working with. How does she expect to make a living and simultaneously burn all of her bridges? Not to mention that by the looks of all the response videos, her peers ( other well known or lesser known vloggers) are not happy with her.
Almost everyone I've seen that's made a "living"off of youtube hasn't done it on YouTube...YouTube was just their elevator to the next level. Why is she concerned about money from some review when other vloggers have companies, websites, business deals, make up lines, etc? Most YouTubers I know at that level of subscribers (even outside the beauty world...dancers, comedians, chefs ) have something else going on, they've moved onto the next level. Yeah, I know someone said she had some Autism foundation thing going on but then why is she all hung up on review money that, from the looks of it, companies aren't trying to give her anyway? Move on!

This rant really got people talking. Taren now has her own thread on GuruGossip. I was hoping all the natural hair bloggers would stay out of there. Oh well!

This response was perfect. A lot of folks are coming out the woodwork to respond to Taren video and in 8min or less respond quite articulately about why and how she was wrong. These STANS are ridiculous though.

I have yet to see a response video from someone with more YouTube influence than taren. She has the #s to be paid but "Becky's" right that she will have to "sell out" in her contracts with companies. I figured taren already knew that once money got involved she would have to shuck & jive for the brand. Also conflict of interest will limit her as well. These are common sense business issues she will learn about as time goes on.
I'm cashing out

To be honest, I didn't like this video...the woman is annoying, and she sounds like she's 15 years old - and she's 27. The comment about Taren's jewelry took it to a "personal insult" level, and it was unnecessary.
Now this woman? She nailed it. I'm sure she made some enemies, when she told the TRUTH by saying the YouTube vlog world is not as major as folks want to think it is. There are thousands, hundreds of thousands of folks..who have no idea who "Taren" (who's one of the YouTube big dawgs) is.
Now, if they don't know who she is, then we know the 20,000 subscriber folks need to remain seated. So I really doubt "occupy YouTube" would accomplish much of anything...other than generate a lot of "Who da heck these chicks think they are???" type responses.
YouTube is a vehicle, and it can take you places, but until you REALLY start reaching folks outside its walls, keep your feet on the ground, and don't let your head grow too large.

YES, I did, and I'm just gonna keep silent about what that's about, because I just...need to keep silent. But trust, I caught it.

So here is what I got from Taren's Blogtv thing last night (that was my first time seeing blogtv)
In the chat text area:
It seemed to be the typical stanning in there..people worshipping her looks and hair, asking for advice about how they can blow up on YT, asking her for advice on being a single mother, and the average..butt licking about she's so inspirational and they love her. A few YT gurus were in there big upping her and just generally acting like stans themselves over her. Them discussing how black people need to support eachother and do like "the Jews do". And how Taren "is a real chick".
From Taren:- She doesn't care if companies don't contact her anymore..she just doesn't.
- A few companies contacted her about her rant video and said she was right (no mention that these companies want to work with her or pay her to rep them)
- She believes that what she is saying about getting paid is only a problem in the black community because white YT gurus get paid and they don't catch flack for it. It's just black people that do this and she doesn't know why.
- Black people need to learn their self worth and spending power
- Black people are being capitalized on and don't realize it
- Yes, she knows there are YT millionaries and this is what she's trying to say all this money can be made
- She only got the wig from that $1000 wig she featured. And the wig maker now has the potential to make 5 million dollars just from her featuring it on her channel but she didn't get any of that
- She will no longer be doing reviews for companies for free because "she just can't"
- Her Arerya (I'm sure I misspelled this) site is at a standstill because she's working on a new "Taren Guy" website
- She's over the Kimmaytube thing and the whole thing started because a commenter assumed she was talking about Kim and Kim assumed it too
- YT isn't her only "thing" (so I guess after all YT if not her full income)
- She clarified her comments about small companies which she said were misunderstood. She claims she was just trying to convey to small companies that she has a lot of subbies and that once she does a review for them..they have to be prepared for thousands of orders. And they just may not be able to do it.
- She gave small businesses tips on how to be better.
- She's not sure if she wants to watch the Vadisrad's video because they make it seem like it's negative.
- When she says she's not doing review for companies anymore for free..it doesn't mean she won't tell people what lipstick she's wearing or what hair care products she uses in her regimen if they want to know.
- She doesn't really need to wear the $1000 wig anymore because her hair is now almost just as long as the wig. And not to mention she messed up the wig by trying to dye it..and it turned green. So she's going to have it fixed.

I have to be honest. Taren's jewelry annoyed me too so I watched a couple minutes then turned it off. This response annoyed me more because she sounded like a teenager to me too. I guess I just don't care if someone's mad their not getting paid or someone else is mad someone's mad.

I agree.. the Vadisrad lady.. I just shook my head at that one. But the Mscreamfilms lady was on it. But see.. certain people know how to conduct business and others don't. Perhaps Taren (and other low budget gurus) need to ask THIS lady for advice..instead of running her mouth ranting on YT like an unprofessional novice.

This made me LOL because it is just so....arrogant.
I really think this, the "numbers", is a myopic way of looking at the business aspect of it. I'm not business savvy, but I just don't think it's as simple/cut and dry as she's making it out to be.
#1. All 90,000+ of her subscribers do not watch her videos so that is the reality. Maybe she averages a third of that. And in a world of billions, a country of millions, 1/3rd of 90 thousand people is really not a lot of people at all. Again- arrogant much?
#2. She doesn't understand the difference between an endorsement and a review.
I could go on but I don't need to because it doesn't matter. Those are the main issues anyways.

Yeah..her whole attitude last night on that blogtv was arrogant. It's ironic how she made that video about how when YTers make partner they start getting arrogant that started that whole Kimmaytube and AfricanExport drama..and here she is displaying the same exact behavior and demeanor she ranted about concerning other YT gurus.
What I really found that was unfortunate is her pushing this off on the "black community" as if that's why she can't really blow up because of black attitudes. Give me a break. In the USA, black folks are the number one consumers. So if you are offering something they want..they don't give a rats behind WHO you are..they will buy it.
So no..the problem isn't with "black folks" it's with her. She's not as professional and as "BIG..big" as she thinks she is and these actual TRULY "BIG" companies aren't paying her mega bucks to represent them or their brand with her acting like that.. now someone like Anthony Dickey might toss her a few duckets and some free stuff..might even pay for her to go on a trip to rep him. But Tresemme, L'oreal, WEN, DOVE, and them ain't checking for her.
Maybe if she can come off her "I'm the stuff now" horse and actually hook up with the right business minded people..she'd LEARN to get to be as big as she actually thinks she is..

I am not saying that the numbers are the only metric prospective company seeking a youtube vlogger should consider. I definitely realize that all her "subies" don't watch every video but even a 3rd of that viewership would help a company's sales. If one of my clients could get even a third of that third to purchase their product (not hair related) they would get more than a million in revenue.
I would not necessarily choose Taren to promote certain products because she's all over the place. She appeals to a certain youtube viewer. Elle, or Kim, or African Export appeal to other types of viewers. But once a co. does decide to solicit her services she should be compensated in the form of her choosing. Now if I was an exec. and I was considering $500 worth of product then I would give her $500 cash. I think that's fair. But once I give you the cash you owe me an endorsement and a darn good one at that (mind you I wouldn't ask for a review from someone with hair that won't work well with my product, that defeats the purpose).
She's not very professional in how she said what she said and I think she opened up a can of worms but she will soon find that there's more to business and marketing than numbers alone and that companies expect something from you in return. I think she should take the time to get a degree or take a class in this field if she wants to be taken seriously by large businesses.
I agree about supply and demand issues too. A lot of businesses in various industries are gung ho to get publicity then they fall short when it's time to deliver product. There's a learning curve for that. That's not necessarily arrogant if it's happened to her before. That's proper planning.
