My son is not easy to teach because it takes a lot to get him engaged in the activities. I know this. But I expect that he wasn't focusing & she wasn't paying attention. I'm holding both of them accountable. I don't take well to teachers who don't hills students accountable. I am more disjointed in my son though. He really made progress this summer. He should be on his A game.

Until last year we were allowed to use part of specials (pe/art/music) time or recess for kids to finish (only 5-10) but even that's been cut out. In my class, if you didn't finish and it was important/I knew you were capable of finishing it alone, I would send it home so it could be finished there. I am glad you're involved and making sure s/he doesn't cut your son slack. I would be on other teachers in my school about it, every child should be held at high expectations and there are some teachers (not all) that aren't aware of that.

I checked out honey i'm strong & it has a cone. But I still may try the shampoo (which should have a sulfate) & conditioner since the largest size is $7 each. I love living on the edge. Lol.

I personally just use a sulfate shampoo to remove silicones..usually a clarifying type.

Then I deep condition my hair to restore moisture and softness. I really don't use silicone products very often but when I want to try a product that contains some that is what I do. So clearly I limit my silicone use in general. I learned that works best for me because silicones are fabulous on my hair at first..but after a week my hair has build up on it (even if I'm co-washing every day which I always do). So I need to remove the silicone once per week properly and then reapply if I'm using that silicone product again. So I'm starting fresh weekly. I find I can do that weeks on end with no adverse issues..but deep treatments weekly are a MUST because the shampoos that I prefer (sulfate and non) strip the pure hell out of my hair..and yes I prefer that....but because I know what ingredients work well to restore moisture and softness to my hair instantly after I remove silicones. So I feel very confident using silicones when I feel like it.
I need to say it here. I'm going to kill my son. He did 200+ pages of 1st grade work this summer. This knucklehead had the audacity to come home with a worksheet that had pure scribbling on it. Not a single word on the page besides his name. I lit his behind up. His teacher probably thinks he's dumb as hell. I am going to have him re do the work & his homework & i'm taking the workbook to the teacher so she will adjust her expectations. I'm mad she let him get away with it.

She is a very beautiful young lady! Just like she was when she had her leotard and half pony/bun. I hope she didn't feel pressured to "do something" with her hair.

kairo thanks for your perspective. There are 17 kids in the class. I think its partially adjustment to the new year so I will give them both some room to adjust. But i'm still going to see her. I will be helping out in both classrooms this year because i've learned that me bonding with the teacher helps the teacher-student relationship. I'm very positive about this year. We'll all get it together. Together. I won't let my children fail. I will not send unfinished work in. I was shell shocked though.

I went the public school my whole life. My experience is some teachers care about all the kids' success and some only want to push the ones they think are smart and have potential. Like is this kid worth my time and aggravation?
The first seven years I went to a magnet school that was language immersion and it was not a walk in the park. All of us were expected to get our work done and if not you flunked.
When my family moved down south I discovered the whole remedial, basic, accelerated and AP system. They didn't know what level to put me in so they gave me basic English and Math and acc geography and science. I couldn't figure out why I had to bust my butt in two classes and everyone goofed off in the other classes. The next year they put me in all honors ap and that is what I took until I graduated. With few exceptions those were not the teachers who were going to let you slide or get by. If they didn't like your paper then you had to write it over and over until it was acceptable. My AP English teacher gave me hell. My mom sometimes had to drive me 30 minutes to use a university library so I could complete some assignments. But the kids who took basic and remedial classes a lot of the teachers didn't care if they learned. Just passed them through so they didn't have to deal with them. I had to tell a girl I went to high school with that Mexico is closer to us than Spain. Need I say more?

I was so pissed at work today. I noticed an inconsistency in the name we were calling this business so I questioned it. No one in the office knew what was right. I made a few calls and no one I called seemed to know. My boss walked by and I asked him if he knew where the information came from. He went off screaming and cursing about he doesn't know anything about it and why am I asking him questions when it's not part of his job. Whatever. i walk off and posed the question to another manager and he interjects into our conversation which he just said he shouldn't have to deal with. He gets mad when we make mistakes so why is he yelling when people are trying to get correct information? Later I went in his office and asked him why he yelled at me and he said I caught him at a bad time and apologized. But he does stuff like this a lot. If he is in a bad mood he takes it out on everyone by giving them a nasty attitude. I don't think that is right. When I'm in a bad mood I don't think that gives me the right to talk to people any kind of way.
I think a lot of black folks had a problem Gabby's hair because her hair wasn't smooth and bone straight. She didn't have a "fresh relaxer". You know how that goes...*sigh*.

Personally, I didn't see the issue with her hair.. as a person of color I know a lot of black folks hair is just not going to lay down like some of the folks of other races and ethnicities hair lays..it is what it is. And black folks in general KNOW this fact but get salty because they are embarrassed on some level about what is a common trait among black.. hair that isn't silky smooth unless you chemically or heat alter it. And for a lot of black folks showing that publically is outrageous..especially a black woman/girl on tv in front of everybody. *insert eyeroll*

Gabby's hair was styled similiar to every other girls hair on her team..but black folks tripping because she sweated out her hair some and it started reverting a bit not to mention you could visibly see the hard gel marks in her hair.. UM SO! That what happens with certain hair types like Gabby has..and damn certain black folks acting like they don't know that!

I guess she should have had on a blonde 24 inch weave ponytail and a fresh relaxer with the edges pulled tight as barbwire going on... or a lace front.

It's sad.. the things that should really concern don't..and the things that shouldn't it has to be a huge deal like it's so important. It's huge disappointment to me after all this young lady has acheived and how she's just been an incredible inspiration and positive representation of an outstanding young black girl (aren't we the main ones always hollering about how they portray us wrong) and here's a black girl representing well and has the attention of the world.. yet certain black folks can only seem to focus on her hair wasn't freshly permed/relaxed. I mean really ? seriously ?

One major thing I notice from my academic experience prior to college was a lack of consistent challenge and stimulation. I think that was a major issue for me. It took me until college to realize my potential. I yearned for more challenge in elementary-middle school, but my options were limited.
